9 hard drives! How come?

I was thinking that?!

Just on a side note, Are you into heavy gaming? OR more of a play an hour here or there. I was just thinking you could save yourself a bundle and get either the X1900XT or the 7900GT. Both perform admirably but are quite a bit cheaper than the X1900XTX or the 7900GTX. I know you have said budget isn't a problem but its ridiculous to spend so much and then not use it to its full potential.

PSU I'm going to be running two Hiper Type R 580w, one for main system, the other for HDD's going to be using 9 HDD's, two CD/DVD's and one fan/temp controller

Perhaps it's a dumb question but how and why are you going to combine two PSU's?

it can be done, i dont know how but it can definatly be done

I would be very gratefull if you could post here when you know how. It's something I was advised not to attempt some time back and I am genuinely interested.
Despite this, I am still wondering why you need two PSU's? I would have thought one good quality unit would suffice!

i believe it is much the same way that hotwiring a PSU works (hotwiring a psu to make it turn on without being plugged into a motherboard is done by just attaching a paperclip from the green cable end to any black cable end)...

only that you would need to make an adapter/connector that forces one PSU to turn on when the other is turned on.

a quick google has shown this

coincidentally, if you buy a CM Stacker case it comes with a nifty little tool/connector thingy that lets you plug two PSU's together and does the job nicely without the need of soldering and all that malarky.

personally though, 1 big and reliable PSU would be much better than two normal ones.

anyway back on topic

phileeny, again... it would be much easier to buy one HDD (if you really need the space get a 500GB drive or a couple of 200GB drives) than stress out your machine by using 9 HDDS. what makes and sizes are all these drives?

I've got the following: Thanks to all that helped
Asus A8N-sli Premium
AMD 62x2 4400
Zalman CNPS9500
Corsair Twin 2GB 4000PT
ATI HIS X1900xtx

Question was about the PSU running together, please see this link:
http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/power/psu.htm

Question was why 9 HDD's
if I get two 500GB drives and there is a drive problem later on I will need to find other storage for my data when i need to re-install or format that partition or all the drive.

I will be playing games a lot, but mostly for my image and video editing, my setup will be looking like this
One 250GB IDE for the OS may be partitioned in to two
Four Sata Raid for game and data storage

Four Sata drives external [Icy Dock] for my music, my photographs, my videos, Backups
I like Maxtor DiamondMax 10

Thats the Idea anyway, and why not?

Thanks for the link guys (why couldn't I get Google to return that article :( ).

Phileeny, Why an IDE drive for the OS and why so BIG?
Why external raid when you still have another 4 SATA's available and some of these can be extended to external drives with the supplied backplate?

I am currently waiting on funds to purchase 4xWD SE16 250 or 320 Gig drives for video storage and would be interested in your reasoning. I am not sure if I want to just add them to my rig or have them as hot-swap devices and store them separately?

Removeable for safety, less chance of data damage with virus or other when permently connected, can be removed for storage when not in use or data transfer to another computer

Yeah, that's why I was thinking of hot-swapping my video storage drives when I can afford them!

for all you intel gays ( :p ) who think intel is better at number crunching -my work computer is a [email protected] and my home pc is an amd at 2.8ghz. work computer takes 51seconds to complete a 1mb calculation home pc takes 29seconds
