Graphics Card from OCUK B Grade

Well, bought a graphics card from OCUK B grade thinking that it would have its normal warantee remaining since it was first sold (since I took it that B grade are returns?). Anyways, I checked with OCUK, and it appears they are only doing the first 14 days themselves, and the remainder is with the manufacturer.

This is a problem, as the manufacturer in my case (Gainward) dont deal with end users, but only the suppliers. I contacted OCUK and told them that by graphics card had a problem (it didnt, i havnt even tried it) and that I bought it a month ago (well outside the 2 weeks warantee they supply, even though I just bought it, ofc all this as a test scenario). This is what I found.

The supplier (OCUK) would send me to Gainward for my warantee remaining on the card.
Gainward would send me to OCUK.

As you can see, this is a problem. The consumer is being sent in circles.

What is the solution to this please? Or do I just avoid B grade stock in the future?

Thanks

Regards

i bought a B grade MSI x48C mobo a few weeks back for half the retail price i was chuffed to bits to get the top of the chain in mobos.
after i installed the mobo i have series of problems and eventually sent it back faulty under a RMA,OCUK tested and refunded my money and P&P i cant Praise there customer service enough.
i wont ever be buying a B grade product again as i never reliased about the 14 day warranty and was lucky that the mobo failed in time for me to send it back, but many ppl have bought B grade products and have been ok with their puchases.
you have been very unlucky like myself i hope you sort it out and get your money back one way or the other.

Edit: my mistake i read OP details wrong and thought the card was faulty

Gainward have to honour there warrenty imo. If the card had a 2year warranty and died 1 1/2 years down the line i would expect gainward to replace it thus counting out the middle man at the same time should take less time. Ocuk state that after the 14 days are up its upto gainward to sort it out with you. B grade is risky imo but thats why the prices are so good. Hes not been unlcuky lol as hes just making it up if its faulty he can send it back to ocuk and do what you have done its just a what if senario hes using.

This isn't even a new problem with gainward - awhile back (2005/2006) when they changed their RMA procedures I got stuck in a loop between the retailer and gainward trying to RMA a card - both firmly insisting I dealt with it through the other... eventually the shop said they'd deal with it.

Well, I havn't even had the card for a few days yet, and I'm not liking this. I'm going to be sending it back under the distance selling act. I'd just rather pay for a proper warantee. Anyway, the new graphics cards are just around the corner. Plus, my whole PC is out of action anyway due to the motherboard still being with EVGA. They still havnt gotten around to replacing is due to some shortage, and are waiting for more board deliveries.

This is very frustrating. I will have to fork out to send this back!

I currently have 3 B Grade items in my machine, and have bought at least 8 over the past 3 years, never had a problem with any item.

B grade is a risk and I wouldn't perhaps trust a hard drive on b grade. However, I have had several b grade items over the years and no problems on any of them.

A bit of a pain with the Gainward situation however they can't avoid honouring their warranty. If they insist it must be dealt with through the etailer then they would have to deal with it.

What happens if you buy a genuine Gainward non b grade stock and it goes wrong after a year. The etailer is no longer responisible as the remaining warranty is with the manufacturer? Same problem.

TBH it puts me off buying Gainward stuff more than buying b grade stuff.

No, B-grade doesn't mean an item is necessarily faulty although it might be, and buying a b-grade hard drive is inviting trouble, especially if you aren't bothering to back up your data.

I'm a big fan of b-grade, it throws up some great bargains now and again.

I got one of the Oc uk monitors 24" ones on B-Grade a few months ago when they were £125, its been fantastic and it even had the decent panel in.

I got a B-Grade Barracude 750GB dleivered for £43.

Certified Seagate refurbished, with 4.5 years warranty still on it :D

Id keep it if it works fine, as if it does go after 14 days and Gainward say you have to deal with OcUK, then im sure OcUK would sort it out for you, once you tell them Gainward said etailor (you) not us, as they pretty good guys these.

Good for you. As I said b-grade often delivers but I've also bought some turkeys. When it comes to hard drives I'd prefer to err on the side of caution and buy new.

B-grades a hit and miss, sometimes you get an absolute bargain, other times you get utter rubbish.

Yeah, I bought a dodgy overheating GTX 280 for £234 and returned it to the manufacturer who replaced it no questions asked. You can make B-grade work for you if you use some common sense.

I had a similar problem with asus a couple of years ago. The place i bought the boxed card from went bust so there was no possible way i could use them for the 3 year warranty.

The 3 year warranty ( from asus ) was plastered all over the retail box so of course i contacted them for an rma. Turns out that asus will not deal with end users for anything but monitors and laptops.

In the end i had to resort to sending letters to the uk head office and still got nowhere, i had to goto trading standards to get anywhere.

The case eventually went to court, or a tribunal i didnt have to attend or anything, and i was awarded the original price back! asus didnt even mount a defense and i got a cheque in the post about a month later.

Turns out that trading standards have rapped asus repeatedly for not honouring the 1year plus warranties in the UK. As far as im aware asus still do not have a proper RMA precedure for gfx cards in the uk.

I used to be a big fan of asus and their products, now i refuse to buy anything made by them.
