GRAW Graphics: Not that good?

Got GRAW on last night having finished COD2 on Veteran. Slightly disappointed with the graphics tbh. The comments I've seen so far are praising it for its graphics. Heres my 2p.

(Running through 37" LCD, HD. Tried both component & VGA)

- Textures look really low res
- I have major tearing problems on fast movement scenes.
- Bad framerate. Going from COD2 that was silky smooth makes this move like its struggling to cope.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics are good, but I was expecting more. Some scenes look better than others though.

Thoughts?

Absolutely. But every comment I saw was praising the graphics. I though that, for example, COD2 ran better and coped with a near constant 60fps framerate. GRAW seems to struggle to maintain a decent framerate. Some explosions I have seen have literally taken the game to a crawl.

Oh, on a related note, tearing will happen whenever the frame refresh isn't timed exactly with the refresh of the display device. That means at 60fps there can still be tearing, same at 30fps. Its possible to eliminate tearing on PCs because the graphics card is notified by the monitor of every refresh (vertical blank). On TVs you don't get this signal and therefore some TVs will be fine, some won't.

No it doesnt. That means nearly every game would have tearing unless it matches your CRT/LCD. No other games I play through my LCD suffer from tearing. My LCD is 60HZ. Are you saying that every game that doesn't run at 60FPS will tear?

Some people are never satisfied

When a next gen game is released that has a poor frame rate in parts (below 10fps IMO in high action/explosions), a game that suffers appauling tearing on fast movement, some real bad textures in parts (railway tracks), pop-ups when looking round corners, the ability to WALK THROUGH team mates, a lack of bump-mapping and some disturbingly lo-res window reflections that show scenery that isn't there, the graphics lose a lot of their greatness. Shame really.

Good game? Yes. Overhyped? Yes. From what I read, I was expecting none of the above. Not one mention was made in reviews. Not one. Maybe playing on a 37" screen makes it more noticable. But the flaws stand out to my eyes. :)

IMO.
