Great job, ok wage - or worse job .. better wage?

I'm in the situation of 2 and will stay in the situation of 2 until I'm set up enough in life that I can work in 1.

Ideal would be a job I love with great wages but this rarely happens for most people.

Usually I'd be the first to say go with the job you enjoy but in this case the 25% is swinging me towards number 2! Using my current salary as x in a job i think is ok I can honestly say I'd take a 25% pay rise to do a job that I though was a bit worse!

Done this recently - had a god-awful job, which paid very well, was near to me and so on....

I quit (it got ridiculous) and I'm now working somewhere else which pays approximately half of what I was earning before - but there are more opportunities and I absolutely love the job. I even do a 2.5 hour commute each day and it doesn't bother me at all - I look forward to going to work...

Despite the drive I also get home about an hour earlier as well....

Makes all the difference to how you feel about yourself and work, does take its toll on you if you're not enjoying it, even if you don't realise it at the time.

Obviously it does depend on your personal and financial situation somewhat, though!

Can you live on X or do you need the extra?

Would it be possible to work less hours in job 2 have equal or slightly more money and a bit fo extra free time?

I've just moved from 2 to 1. Took a hefty pay cut to be closer to home.

That is me though with my situation, which is most likely different to most others here right now and different to yours.
So everyones answers mean bugger all for you :)

Agree wit magnolia, you sure you really command such respect in terms of salary?!

Option 1. I used to work in the city on a very good salary, 2.5-3 hours travelling and lots of perks.

I now work 10 minutes walk from home, salary roughly 75% of what I was earning and lots less perks (work for myself now).

I'm a much happier person now and for once in my life I'm enjoying my work.

At my age, its more about quality of life than quantity of money.

1 in that situation. Luckily, I get paid more than I'd expect to do a job I love, it's just unfortunate that I so rarely get to work within an hour of leaving my house - normally about 90 mins, but I wouldn't change it for a job I didn't enjoy as much if it were right next door.
