Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 24th October 2021]

Let's just take a step back, he probably has the most difficult and demanding job in world football. Here are his managerial achievements:

I mean, that is literally it.

I understand Conte is not a perfect fit, but he does have a defined philosophy, and he does have a lot of experience. Just for comparison:

If they don't feel Conte is the right manager for whatever reason, then they need to start thinking about what to do. Ole looks like a dead man walking now, and this isn't sustainable.

I just checked and I made a thread calling for him to go back in December 2019. It was bloody obvious then that after a good start he was a bit rubbish and out of his depth.

Doesn't help that they haven't got a leader on the pitch either. Maguire needs to hand in the armband to Ronaldo or Bruno.

The armband doesn't make someone a leader. Ronaldo and Bruno are always moaning and having little tantrums, not really ideal.

Not sure what football that is

Thats kinda my point. Any player that excels in a well defined system will be completely lost at United right now.

I thought this was just a Liverpool twitter thing.

Nope. Very much a Redcafe "if you don't 100% support the manager and want us to win every game no matter how dire the football then you are a bad fan".

The Sancho situation is not a situation at all. Players take different times to settle, especially after what Sancho went through over the summer. He's playing in a whole new league. His last few appearances have looked much better. He was excellent against Everton and Villarreal. He's played almost as many minutes as Foden has this season yet I don't see people talking about 'the Foden situation'

Probably because of all of Foden's goals and assists....

Cause Foden fits city system and has played far better.

For what it's worth I rate Sancho however he had been screwed by you essentially bringing in Ronaldo.

Utd needed a solid defensive mid fielder some one who can control a game yet you brought in Ronaldo who will effectively use Sancho game time.

Sancho plus a midfielder would have made sense not sancho plus another attacker

Utd lack of structure and a manager who has no idea what to do also doesn't help sancho and your entire squad

Foden was out injured for the first few games of the season. Whether the Sancho situation is a situation or not, I think it's fair to say you don't see many £70m+ signings that aren't starting most games and the expectations on them are always higher.

It does seem like Sancho has been collateral damage from the Ronaldo signing. Ronaldo's playing most if not all games through the middle which has left Utd with a lot of players for just 2 wide attacking roles.

I think sancho has been damaged by his own form or lack of plus Greenwood showing him up.

Then rashford coming back from injury and scoring while sancho has zero contributions in many times more minutes.

But rob said the bloke must be wondering what he's done, what has that got to do with goals and assists? Surely he's talking playing time.

Also Ronaldo moving likely had no impact on Sancho, it's minimised Martial's playing time.
Foden's only been available for half of the season due to injury. He was completely out of the first 4 games and was limited to a 15-20 minute sub appearance on his first game back from injury. Trying to compare his minutes to Sancho's is really disingenuous.

And of course Ronaldo's impacted his potential game time. Without Ronaldo Utd have 5 players for the central and two wide forward roles, with Ronaldo it effectively becomes 4 players for the two wide forward roles as Ronaldo's playing almost every game through the middle.

Sancho was always competing with Greenwood for the right side once James left. Ronaldo joining changed nothing in that respect. I could understand if we'd been using Martial more on the left but he's barely played. If anything Sancho has had more opportunities since James went out and Ronaldo came in because Ronaldo plays solely up front where Sancho won't play.

Daniel James wasn't getting a sniff in the side had he stayed so his departure hasn't changed anything. All of Martial, Rashford and Greenwood can play both wide and through the middle and without Ronaldo they'd have played there more than they have or will moving forwards. The fact that these players haven't and won't feature centrally very often means there's more competition for the two wide roles, which are the only two positions Sancho can play.
