Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th February 2025]

As Baz points out the point am making is your drop off is too much and mostly that’s on arteta due to his summer plans

Sterling was done before you signed him and Havertz was never great anyway plus Odegaard as fallen off a cliff atm

It was fine letting the players go if you signed the right ones after and he didn’t.

Saka is far too relied upon and again that’s arteta doing
If Liverpool lost Salah, Diaz, Jota and Nunez all at once I think they'd struggle a bit too. We definitely weren't firing on all cylinders before the various injuries but I'm confident we would be in touching distance of top spot if we didn't have them / had adequate replacements.

Agreed on the transfers, Havertz was never the answer and we didn't do anything to help with goals across all our signings. To not then sign someone over the winter window was criminal and effectively conceded the league. Whoever was the driving force behind the Sterling signing needs sacking, he is performing exactly like expected.

Saying we rely on Saka is the same as you boys with Salah. They are the best players in their respective teams, of course they are relied on.

Everything is of course relative. The impact on us being without Salah is probably as great as you being without Saka but that's because Salah's a freak and his numbers are off the charts, not really because of a lack of quality elsewhere which is the issue for Arsenal. Diaz and Gakpo are both having very decent seasons. When he's fit Jota's still scoring at a very good rate. Heck, even Nunez is scoring at a rate better than the majority of Arsenal's forwards. Diaz, Gakpo, Jota and Nunez's combined average is a goal every 188 minutes. Havertz, Trossard, Martinelli and Jesus' combined average is a goal every 256 minutes. That's Arsenal's issue right there.

Arsenal lack goalscorers and creativity in their side and it's why they've failed to score more than 1 in a game 11 times in 27 PL games this season and 7 of those were before the injuries to their forwards.

Sir Harold Maguire should be knighted for his perseverance and keeping several managers employed. Also for the size of his skull.

The big problem for Arsenal is that when City finally slipped up, they had to be the ones ready to take advantage. Instead, they've blown it again.

Injuries of course don't help, but they've been crying out for a striker for a long time now. I think Arteta will get next season, with a striker, otherwise they'll be looking elsewhere for a manager. They'll be treading water in his 6th year in charge, not acceptable.

We clearly threw that game last night. Don’t want to give away top secret game plan. Keeping them trio out of the game and unleashing them in the final.

Genius!!
I wouldn’t go that far, but I do expect it to be a far different game in just under 3 weeks

Yeah, he will be gone after next season. I would argue that perhaps if the right manager was available and they don't finish the season well then he could be replaced at the end of this season.

I think suggesting Arteta might go is a bit of a stretch. Arsenal were nowhere for quite a few years before he came in and made them competitive again. Yes, they've just fallen short of greatness several seasons running, but he's done a good job.

Sometimes you are just unlucky in that another team just pips you. It was gutting to see Liverpool lose the title to city by one point on two occasions.

Unless there's some sort of disagreement between Arteta and the board then there's no way he's going this summer. Overall he's done a great job and earned himself more time to take the next step but this summer is huge for him. He's got Arsenal where they are by being this big, powerful, risk averse side - does he stick with that and just try to improve a couple of individuals within in the system or does he tweak things, bringing in more creativity in midfield and or more attack minded fullbacks?

Objectively the team and numbers had gotten better every year until now, at least in the league (domestic cup performances continually leave something to be desired). I can deal with one sub-par campaign that’s been down to a mix of bad luck with multiple long-term injuries occurring at once and poor form from players who were consistently never worse than a 7/10 previously if the practical lesson it’s given the club is heeded in the summer. It’s forced the issue and there’s nowhere to hide or any excuses left about where on the pitch money needs to be spent in a few months, so yes, massive summer on which a lot hinges.

Saw an interesting stat that arsenal have more ppg in the 10 games since Saka's injury than the 17 games before

I think it's more likely that Lego head will leave on his own terms if he feels he can't take the team any further, rather than the club sacking him anytime soon. If he goes another season without any major silverware, a lot of fans will start to turn and he's not exactly the most stable of characters.
