Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 27th December 2024]

Our players are just completely brain dead. What on earth was Martinez doing then? Sa clears it under pressure from Amad, it comes to Martinez in complete space and he just first time hoofs it back to them. Dumb

Because we have the tech to get decisions 99% right. Some arbitrary “looks onside” would just mean that teams concede goals where they were a foot, 2 foot offside. That took 2 minutes and he was miles offside. Should that have been a goal because they are **** at their job?

Should we do away with goal line technology or is that OK because you don’t have to wait so long?

VAR is fine, it’s the people sitting upstairs who need sorting out.

I get that, the whole point of it is so you don’t gain an advantage and more importantly don’t just stand in their box. When it’s that close it requires lines to be drawn, I just don’t think that’s that much of an advantage to the attacker. I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

This is a poor excuse. Amorim has had plenty of time to settle in. We look completely devoid of anything. It looks like a total mess.

Our squad should be beating Wolves if Amorim was doing a good job. Same against Bournemouth.

Our next three games are against Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal.

That will be 6 defeats in a row by then.......

Reality is the squad isn’t as good as you think it is.

Utd look better without Bruno, I reckon he puts a downer on the team. He's the person at work that just makes everyone else hate going in and just miserable when their there.

Are united in a relegation battle?
Nah, they are an omnishambles but they still have players capable of a moment of magic to get them out of jail. This will be enough to get them Midtable as there are some very poor teams in the League. If Amorin can mould then into anything resembling a team then they may still finish top half.

You need to strap in for more of this. This is a complete rebuild in order to have a chance of competing in the future. The problem is that previous managers have papered over the cracks but not built any footballing identity or style of play that is repeatable and can bring sustained success. we've been shuffling deck chairs for years. Provided he gets backed in cleariing house then we have a chance. However, its will be worse than this. This is the bloodletting phase. It's a necessary part of renewal

I'm not making excuses, but his first game was 25 days ago. That's not long considering the mess the squad is in.

He could abandon his system but that was never going to happen and doesn't guarantee anything either. I'm sure the club have taken this into consideration when hiring him.

I do find it genuinely baffling how you wanted ETH to have more time after 18 months of complete dross, but expect Amorim to fix it in the space of a few weeks. Quite a bizarre perspective.

The club needs a complete reset and part of that means accepting bad results - this short term thinking isn't going to get us anywhere.

Exactly.

You have to respect that Amorim inherited this squad , these are not his players and his system may not suit these players.

We are not finishing top half.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, Brighton, Newcastle, City all better then us. That is before you start to include teams having good seasons like Forest, Fulham, Bournemouth etc.

It is still a squad that should be beating Wolves and Bournemouth.
You need to stop looking at the individual players and start looking at how the squad has been compiled. It's a mish mash of players bought by about 4 managers for different styles. Just buying individual players is no longer sufficient, the successful teams / those punching above their weight all have a specific style and players designed to reflect that style. United have the messiest squad in the league.
