Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 5th November 2019]

VAR used Firmino's hand as a reference to draw a line from, that was the only part of him offside. You can't score with your hand, silly robot.
According to 5 Live commentary, they were told from the official channels that Firmino's armpit was offside. That's got to be a first.

I haven't seen it myself yet.

I wanted Allegri before we got Emery. I can't see Emery turning this around now we seem so deflated every time we play. Think we should ditch him now while there is still plenty of time.

It’s getting to the point that I don’t want VAR any more. Anthony Taylor should be looking at that himself on the monitor. Utterly ridiculous and the ‘foul’ didn’t stop him getting to the ball but when he realised Kepa was going to get it he went down. Shambolic.

It doesn't matter whether he could get to the ball, whether he done a triple somersault or whether he snapped his ankle. Deulofeu's reaction makes no difference to the challenge made by Jorginho. Jorginho tripped him, it's a foul regardless of how soft it is or isn't.

Obvious stuff like the penalty in the Liverpool game is being missed but then you have ridiculousness like Firmino’s ARMPIT being declared offside and referees refusing to use the pitch side monitor for their own take. I firmly believe it’s been directed to them all to take VAR’s word and not check themselves.

Didn't he turn us down because the club wouldn't spend the money he said he would need?

Chelsea hanging on a bit but they should’ve been home and dry by now, it was never a 1-2 game this.

I'm sure you're right, they don't want the ref to check things on the monitor because it will delay the game further. VAR for subjective decisions is currently flawed, it's not VAR that's the issue but the way it's being implemented. I've mentioned it a few times over the start of the season, the only way a red card, penalty or foul in the build-up to a goal is being overturned is if the ref's explanation to the VAR official is simply wrong. In the case of Watford's pen just now, if the ref said he saw the incident but wasn't satisfied that there was enough in it to be confident enough to award a pen then the decision stays. I assume in this case the ref has said that he saw the invcident and that there was no contact, which is why he didn't give the pen - this was factually wrong so VAR could change the decision.

That was a foul though. It really bugs me how we spend so long looking at the attacker's reaction in penalty incidents as if it changes anything. The only thing that determines whether something is a foul is the action of the defensive player and in this case Jorginho tripped Deulofeu, what happens after is completely irrelevant.

As for the offside situation, they are treated totally differently to subjective calls. They will use whatever technology they have and no matter how tight the call or what part of the body is or isn't offside, they will make their decision. It's hard to take when those 1mm decisions go against you but it's no differnt to goal line technology.

Just heard what Pep said on MOTD. We're in his head massively. Was it the Spurs game where they had a goal disallowed and post game he's complaining about Adrian being off his line in the Super Cup penalty shootout :o

Yeah pep has been crying a lot this year. Any little chance he trys to have a pop and it's usually from an unrelated question.

When he starts talking about not being able to spend big money and not having enough defenders like liverpool you have to laugh.

He's used to being the media darling. He actually seems jealous that klopp is getting attention and people aren't talking about city all the time.
