Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20 - 26th December 2013]

How much is Ben Arfa worth? I haven't seen much of him but he looks like a good player.

Until he can prove he can put in a 70 minute shift when required, not much. He's a very luxury player that as he plays now, I'd essentially never start except when resting first team starters. He's FAR too selfish, he wastes so many chances both shooting in stupid places and refusing to play in other players so so often and in terms of work rate players like Ronaldo, Ribery, Robben put in defensively, he's a joke.

While you can't buy Arfa and intend to play him first team at a top club, you won't pay a top fee for him. The only level of team you could start him for and put up with his lack of discipline is say a bottom 6 club.

IF he actually got his **** together, and learnt to work hard and how to defend even a little bit his value would increase a lot.

Don't forget though due to how he plays and the fact he isn't starting, he looks stronger than he really is because you've got a tricky player fresh on in the final 20-30 mins against a tired defence. If he was playing 90 mins starting off against a fresh defence and being tired towards the end, he wouldn't be as effective in general.

He's a great impact sub currently, but that's it. How much would say Real have paid for Bale, if they couldn't rely on him to start a game, a fraction of what they did.

On his day Ben Arfa can tear a team apart single-handedly; he did that a few times early this season. But then he just started shooting from impossible distances and angles. Add that to his usual tendency to hold on to the ball longer than necessary and his poor defensive workrate, and it's no surprise he was dropped.

I don't necessarily think he's a selfish player; he just hates playing simple passes. He's always waiting until he can make a killer pass.

Still love him, though.

I can see Chelsea with a woeful performance taking 3 points on Monday. Chelsea are pretty rubbish this season yet they can go to 2nd. Wonder how good they will be if they get form.

Ben Arfa is good but not great. Too many faults in his game to be great but as others have said he can win a game solo given the chance.

First trip to St Mary's this season, this will end in a Spurs win as my record last season was horrific.

Seriously though, this is tough to call, we are a good team with a terrible keeper so expect 4-0 or 0-4.

Hatem is one of the most gifted players around today. No one can argue that he's not.

It's all mental with him.

Think I said before if he had his head sorted and his game more rounded he would not be playing for Newcastle. As he would be at a top club.

Two evenly matched teams but I expect Southampton to win today. Not really sure what Sherwood is doing playing a two man midfield away from home but Eriksen and Dembele are going to get completely overrun. Could be wrong but it's a formation that smacks of 'I want the job so I'm going to pander to the supporters and go all out attack' desperation rather tactical know how.

Not just away from home against anybody but one of the best pressing midfields in the country.

If Spurs don't keep the ball well today they could end up getting slaughtered.

TEAM NEWS v SOUTHAMPTON

Welcome to St Mary's. We have news of our team in ahead of the 1.30pm kick off...

(STARTING XI): Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Rose; Lamela, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson; Adebayor, Defoe

(SUBS): Friedel, Capoue, Fredericks, Bentaleb, Holtby, Chadli, Defoe

from the official facebook page

think the admin was on the sauce last night

Have Spurs got many injuries? Sandro's obviously injured and Paulinho's suspended but Sigurdsson on the left and no Townsend or Lennon in the squad seems strange.

LOLmela might have some luck against their stand in left back but it's a midfield that seems heavily weighted towards passing the ball on the floor rather than getting crosses in to Adebayor and LOLdado.
