Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20 - 26th December 2013]

At Chelsea he picked two players to put down to try and make himself look strong, it's almost the polar opposite of the Mourinho approach(which I'm not saying is the best or only approach). AVB attempts to rule by fear, Mourinho normally or used to take all the blame, defend players they all loved him(mostly) and played their hearts out for him.

Honestly the biggest difference between AVB/RDM, was they liked RDM and wanted to play hard for him. AVB freezing out ADebayor because of one not so great season, what message do you send to the entire team, don't perform and you mean absolutely nothing to him? The whole refusing to even speak to him, same as refusing to let Anelka/Alex in the gym at the same time as the first team or go to the club xmas party, it's petty, pathetic, little man syndrome.

Aside from all that, I still don't think there was anything good about him as a manager, tactics, nope, ability to read opposition, nope, man management... lol.

It's easy to control possession against the bottom 8 teams who have no strikers and little threat, but that failed so painfully badly against the top half, which shouldn't have been even marginally surprising, and they carried no goal threat themselves.

I dunno whether to credit Sherwood or not. Southampton are pressing us high, so we are trying to bypass and counter that press at every opportunity with long balls to Ade. We cant play our way through it though.

DM, I think we agree. Both Eriksen and Lamela are off form but also adapting to the pace of the PL. I just don't think they have settled yet and I am not sure whether they should both be playing from the start. Lamela in particular is a slow burner.

Bentelab is in for a baptism of fire- 1 vs 3 pressing midfielders.

I can't work out if that's brave/genius or utterly foolish from a man trying to make a point. If we go on to lose this then there will be serious questions about Tim with that decision?

gold- so true

Where's this frozen out Adebayor nonsense come from? AVB likes to play with one striker up front, one! Spurs paid £26 million for Soldado so he was always going to be their main striker. Let's not forget most Spurs supporters gave up on Adebayor because of his attitude, well until he scored last week when they suddenly started liking him again.

You actually have to attack to win a game...... AVB should probably be taking notes while watching this.

Can imagine him somewhere saying "oh, creative attacking players leads to goals.... how did I not get that".

Also this idea that having a purely defensive player = good defence, is daft. Eriksen can defend and press, so can Lamela, anyone can. Sandro and Paulinho in particular to me, seem a total waste of space.

Attacking IS defending, while their back four are pushed further back, so is their midfield and so are their strikers. The more you put them under pressure the more mistakes they make, the easier it becomes to win the ball back. Attacking is the best form of defence, replacing the ability to attack with midfield foulers is the worst way to do it.

Ade plays in fits and starts. He was frozen out because he didn't come back from an international friendly until 2 or 3 days after his scheduled arrival. I dunno what happened after that but he took a sickener to AVB and AVB to him.

Now he is back and playing for his next move. I wouldn't be sorry to see him go; he will play 10 great games and then back off again.

Adebayor from the start of the season was training with the youngsters and wasn't allowed to train with the first team, and by all reports, AVB sent a physio to deliver the news that Adebayor should not show his face anywhere near AVB.

I'm starting to wonder whether the saves Lloris makes, make up for the crazy things he does? Why on earth is he coming out there?
