Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 24th April 2012]

Be interesting to see the Arsenal starting XI as Arteta/Wilshere are injured and Benayoun ineligible. I'm assuming Wenger will go with Ramsey in midfield and Gervinho left wing but it would be nice to see Ox get a start.

Yep having him out for the rest of the season is not going to help our cause much...brilliant timing though i have to admit, just as we are making 3rd ours...we go and lose a very important player next to RVP for the rest of the season.

3rd would be great, but we have been so inconsistent this year and I'd be pushing it if I said we deserved 3rd given some of our performances this season, I think I'd take 4th and be happy to see the back of it. 3rd would have the boost of the auto CL spot though which is worth going for

Very hard to predict, for as inconsistant as we are, Spurs and Chelsea are as well.

Honestly right now I'd put Newcastle's form and ability most likely to go 3rd, but things like mentality will come into it, Newcastle could just as easily pull a Spurs/City, start thinking about third and play like ****.

Arsenal are favourites for 3rd simple because Chelsea have the furthest to catch up and Spurs's form is 2nd worst only to Wolves over the past 6 games, and not much better over the last 10-12 games. Spurs need by far the biggest turn around in form to stay in the top four and considering the length of their poor form and the fact Spurs haven't been able to do a damned thing about it for months..... can anyone see them finding the answer now?

I do think it will end up with Newcastle and Arsenal in the top 4 this time around, its harder to tell, Arsenal have two half decent teams in Norwich/West Brom, Chelsea who we could easily lose to.

Spurs have by far the "easiest" run in on paper, Blackburn, Bolton, QPR, Villa and Fulham, at their best that should be 15 points for Spurs, but with 4 of them fighting for relegation, Fulham playing well and Spurs playing as badly as they have been..... who knows.

Newcastle have Chelsea and City, and 3 more games that they can certainly win, I can see them taking a point out of Chelsea, maybe City aswell(more so if City are out of the title race by then). Chelsea have Arsenal and Newcastle, their season rests on those two games, if they lose this weekend I can't see them getting top 4 at all.

Meh another 3 pts dropped when we play Chelsea, i know its at home but after our shambolic defeat to Wigan i can see Chelsea beating us and therefore 3rd place becomes less and less likely ours especially if Spurs and Newcastle win.

Losing to Wigan earlier this week is going come and bite our arses very hard i feel....it was 3 pts we could neither afford to drop.

Plus Chelsea are riding high after beating Barca 1-0 last night so thats my prediction for our game.

Spawn you're the biggest pessimist ever. Do you ever actually get behind the team or are you just a fair weather fan? We're going to smash them Arteta or no Arteta. :p

very tricky game against Everton, all Utd players need to be at their very best to even think about the 3 points, otherwise 2 or more could easily be dropped.

No doubt Howard and Nev will have blinders (and probably even Gibson lol)

Im always pessimistic;) and it hasnt gone wrong for me so far...i said we would probably drop points against Wigan, which we duly did. So yes when we drop stupid points to a team thats battling relegation then i will question whether or not we have the balls to get third or fourth...not only have we dropped points to Wigan but a few weeks ago we dropped 3 pts to QPR, another team thats battling relegation.

So excuse me if im being a tad pessimistic, our past record has proven me correct although this season we seem to be doing better during the run in to the end of the season, i still think we will drop points to teams that really, in a nutshell we shouldnt be.

Despite my pessimistic nature, i still want us to smash Chelsea to pieces:p...but im not going to look like a fool saying it then see us get smashed to pieces:p

On a plus note, looks like Droggy the diver is out of Sat game against Arsenal:p

I can't see it but I'm hoping we can cause an upset and let Man City back in to the hunt, so the Manchester Derby becomes a bit more significant.

Failing that a loss and breaking one of rooneys metatarsals will suffice. Only 5 more games for the inevitable to happen, may as well be against Everton ;)

It's huge for us too, a win seals automatic and keeps the pressure on Reading for the title (we have Coventry on the last day which is a lot simpler than their trip to Birmingham)

A game against a team fighting against relegation (which Coventry potentially could be) is never a simple game.

Coventry to be already relegated would be a massive bonus for Saints chances of the title IMO.

lol Chelsea, stopping Messi is one thing, but stopping Robin van Persie is another beast. Persie is agitated by the Wigan result and will unleash his pent up frustration all over the Chelsea defence tomorrow.

4 - 1

nay, 5 - 0

Coventry (like pomp) HAVE to win today and pray Bristol City don't to stand any chance of staying up which is a really big ask, especially as Bristol City host Barnsley today who don't travel all that well (and are safe). Even Thorn considers them more or less relegated....

But yeah you're right it will be difficult if the other team have something to play for (even if we have beaten Coventry twice this season already), thankfully before we next kick a ball most of those sorts of things will be decided with the late kick off :) (plus middlesborough's fate will be more or less decided before the game too if blackpool or cardiff win)

Cardiff will win. Boro won't win.

Roll on next season, this one has been woeful.

Chelsea team for the Gunners game:

Cech; Bosingwa, Cahill, Terry, Bertrand; Essien, Romeu; Malouda, Kalou, Sturridge; Torres

Subs: Turnbull, Ferreira, Cole, Mikel, Lampard, Meireles, Mata

Famous last words (bookmark this post!) but I'm pretty happy with the two lineups. No Cole, Lampard, Mata or Drogba in the starting XI for Chelsea, whereas Arsenal have their first choice back 4 again and have gone with Ox over Gervinho.
