Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 26th August 2012]

Well just home from the first ever game between Saints and Stevenage! Lamex being the 2nd closest league stadium to my house behind Watford...

4-1 win was nice, first half was dreadful but the second half got good.

Best footballing moments ever too! They conceded a back pass :D (which we put away from the free kick).

Punch also scored a SCREAMER from 35 yards out, volleyed it left foot into the top right with the ball spinning the wrong way. Keeper wasn't the best against it but such a good goal.

What formation did we play tonight? I assume it was 4-3-3.
Also how did Gazza and Lee play?

On a side note we signed Mayuka tonight. :D . Looks a good prospect but then again I know very little about him.

Yep 4-3-3, first half it didn't work because the "lower leagued us" (like Wigan did). They sat everyone on Sharp and the midfield 3 forcing us into plenty of mistakes and ruin possession. Second half, shoe had been thrown at the back 4 to play FOOTBALL and it worked much better.

Gazza I thought was really quite good. Good positioning, handling, shot stopping and passing, plenty of moments for him to do a Bart style error but instead had a good solid game. Their goal he could do nothing about given how close it was (we were messing about passing it out from the back under pressure). Very happy to have him as the no.2 right now though, no need to worry about a nervy Butland and paying over the odds for him.

Lee I liked, worked very very hard, caused them lots of problems (including their right back getting a booking for hacking him down). He did well to get on the end of the first goal and made a few chances. Only real down side is most of the lads aren't used to where he wants to be or going so quite a few of his runs end up like Guly's (very unnoticed). That will get better soon enough.

Excited by the transfer (will FM him tomorrow) just has to be better than Steve De Ridder who was all pace and nothing else (and not on the bench this evening which makes me think he is off)

I know it was a League Cup game, but I say it's time for a radical overhaul and change at Stoke. I've got a dreadful suspicion that this is going to one season too far for us in the EPL and come New Year we'll be already be struggling to stay out of the relegation places.

Time for Pulis, and Kemp, to go! Pulis' 'style' (or is that lack of), is now starting to really get on my breasticles. We're now an established EPL team, and as such we should be striving for advancement with every season, not just sitting back and accepting a bottom half finish with just the required number of points. Pulis is a championship/bottom half EPL manager who has found his level. Time to go methinks.

What's Pulis' old chum 'arry Redknapp upto these days?
