Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th December 2013 - 1st January 2014]

I missed it too then :o
Oscar got done earlier (deservedly) and Wellbeck was lucky not to get it too, I have no problem at all with Refs when they do that :)

Last 10 minutes of the match there was no CM for United.

Januaj Rooney Kagawa Young
Wlebeck Hernandez

United have to sign a CM now such as Koke or Gundogan otherwise we may not even achieve 4th which would be a disaster.

this was more a case of wanting to bring on attackers but refusing to take off Rooney even though he was having a pretty poor game. Instead I think again this was a case of not making a call Fergie would have made because he was scared of the crowd's reaction.

As he said about not taking RVP off, I think that is why he didn't take Rooney or Welbeck off, because he was scared of the crowd's reaction, which is again yet another sign he simply isn't capable of this job.

I honestly can't see Utd achieving 4th, because Liverpool and Chelsea are significantly stronger than last season. it's not City, Utd and then 3-4 teams looking for that 4th spot. It's more like Arsenal, City, Chelsea then Liverpool/Everton competing for the 4th spot, with Spurs, Utd, Newcastle looking at 5th at best, even then due to Pool/Everton's current form and quality I'd say Newcastle/Spurs/Utd are currently undeserving of being higher than 6th.

Anything can happen, but Utd just don't have the manager, nor I think the quality in players any more. I don't think that squad with that manager can compete for the top four as is, let alone trying to overturn the deficit they currently have.

Another horrendous interview from Moyes, it's the interview a manager of a team who can't hope for better than 5th would give. He's smiling, he's saying the team played great, didn't deserve to be behind, aren't looking at the table just trying to win the next game.

That isn't a title winning manager. Fergie expected so much from his players they stepped up. He expected the title and the players rise to the challenge, Moyes expects to not lose games, and Utd aren't rising to the occasion, aren't showing anything like the quality, spirit, belief.

If Utd replaced Moyes today and got a good replacement they'd improve, quickly but I still think that Utd squad needs some significant rebuilding.

But don't worry... one midfield signing and they'll easily make the top four...

El oh el.

The top 4 and top 8 is so important, it's not so much the win, it's not denying the opposition the 3 points. Very rarely does the title winner not have a very good record against the top 4, not necessarily wins but draws.

That is one of the reasons I didn't think Liverpool would be able to win against City or Chelsea and why they dropped down, they hadn't played many top teams and they had a poor record already without having played those two.

It's also why I've been so impressed with Everton as that mini table shows, against the top teams they've been fantastic. Easily the best side at Emirates and Etihad this season, and those were two of their poorer results. They could easily have gotten, and maybe deserved, a draw against City and win against Arsenal.

Yet we're 4th in the table and ahead of Everton and Newcastle. It's almost as if the results against the bottom half teams do count for the same amount of points as those against the top half.

That was probably one of the worst games of 'football' I've ever ****ing witnessed, against one of the leagues worst teams no doubt. Didn't even see Debuchy's challenge as I was distracted by a **** in the Baggies end but everyone has said it was pretty grim.

City next which makes this result even more infuriating, 3 losses on the bounce guaranteed.

Timis so dowmn to earth, I like him just hope he can dig deep and keep thr results comming

I do like him in interviews, he just seems honest and as of yet hasn't picked up the management doublespeak rubbish. Team loses Moyes says " we played great, never deserved to be behind, should have had seven penalties". It's just the generic managerial nonsense, same responses for the same events.

Team loses, Sherwood says " **** " . Okay I don't actually know what he said after the West Ham game, he's just honest in what the team did. It is easier in front of camera when you've won, so maybe I'll think differently of him when he makes excuses after a loss, will know after the next cup game ;)

Should have been off. Had the ref not caught the dive the keeper would have been off and a penalty given. I don't think a yellow card is a suitable trade off for something as lucrative a player advantage and a free shot from 12 yards. There needs to be more of a dis-incentive for trying to win a penalty by diving. It's soon stop if they got a red.
