Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th December 2013 - 1st January 2014]

Yet we're 4th in the table and ahead of Everton and Newcastle. It's almost as if the results against the bottom half teams do count for the same amount of points as those against the top half.

Exactly, United won titles themselves with consistency against everyone outside of the top 4, making the games against the top 4 less important.

BUT WHO WOULD YOU REPLACE HIM WITH!!

Don't bother they never answer. Get used to it, this will be a theme for the next 10 years as they rip through managers. It will be like watching England rip through managers of proven quality only to be then told they don't know what they are doing.

Moyes reputation isn't built on attacking football, it's built on a solid defensive foundation.

So, where is that then?

I also greatly dislike the all smiles "we played really well" stuff after a loss like that. I had a draw down as a fairly bad result so to lose isn't good at all.

This won't all happen in January, but we have to get players like Anderson shipped out, and get some quality players in. We've got at least 6 or 7 players we need to replace to freshen up and improve the squad. I certainly hope the funds are there to achieve that, they should be.

RvP missing isn't helping though, with both Rooney and RvP starting we do look a lot better going forward, and opposition defenders actually have to make an effort to mark, which keeps the other team on the back foot somewhat.

This can all be resolved, but the club has to decide whether they think they're likely to miss out on the top 4, which won't make it any easier (or indeed cheaper) to attract high quality players. If they are worried about the top 4, and they should at the very least be concerned, then they should push very hard to do any transfer business now.

I didn't say I thought Liverpool would finish below Everton or Newcastle, I said, specifically, that was the reason I didn't think they'd beat City or Chelsea......

In terms of winning the league top 4 games are very important and it is the reason I didn't and don't think Liverpool will win the league. After more games against the top four the dropped places and points. I think they will continue to do that.

Points count the same no matter where you get them it's the stopping your direct opponents getting those points that wins you titles. The point is not your points total, but your opponents. Winning half your top 4 games and finishing on 85 points but those wins meaning your opposition finish on 84 points is great. If you still finish on 85 points but you lose those games to the top 4 and win other games against Palace/Sunderland, then those other teams finish on maybe 90 points instead, and you win nothing.

The points don't matter as much as stopping your direct opposition getting them.

I know, hence the upper case ;)
Patience is needed as the majority of their fans aren't used to mediocrity in the league or the prospect of a managerial conveyor belt so they've panicked a bit.

did you? what were you basing that on....

a lot of people seem to be of the impression that it was a case of united being poor. they were pretty decent imo and had rooney and carrick whilst we were without paulinho and vert. spurs were very good value for that result and deserved it.

januzai is the only player who gave 100% consistently imo. tom cleverly and chris smalling are laughable to be in a united team.

I wasn't paying attention to the replays at HT but did Lloris handle outside the box again today? Every other game he's getting away with handling out of the box, surely the officials are going to start picking up on it.

every other game? are you basing this on fact or just having your weekly spurs bash again?

Solskjaer to replace Moyes at end of next season.

With which players? We don't really have any DMFs or a solid back four really.

We've played 8 of the top 10 away from home.

Why bother arguing, how many points did United get against top 4 in 08/09, five or something out of eighteen? Liverpool take fourteen out of eighteen. Making a point for the sake of it and talking **** as usual.

Hope our last three refs ACLs blow up along with linesman at City and Chelsea.

Jumanji gets funnier every game, worst in the league

I was obviously exaggerating but that's at least the 3rd time I've seen him do it this season and I've not seen half of Spurs games.

And weekly Spurs bash? I hardly mention Spurs because I don't want to get into a conversation with you.

How many times has Januzaj been booked for diving now? He's got to be going for Bale's record.

you even mention ex-spurs players who doesn't even play in the pl anymore. ashley young, one of the most consistent divers ever to grace the prem was actually on the pitch but you chose to mention bale? obvious lolz.

He's an ex-Spurs player and I was actually bashing a Utd player.

Young (and Welbeck for that matter) may well be a serial diver but it's Bale that's got the most bookings for it, although Januzaj has his eye on that record.

Despite what you may think, I don't dislike Spurs. All my hate is saved for Utd and to a lesser extent Everton. Everton is more pity than hate.

Given how our rivals mostly bashed spurs it makes the result a loss at home even worse really. We are just poor. Disorganised, lacking ideas. How much could we lose if we can't get 4th spot. .

rooney and without rooney you really are in trouble.

again, i thought you were decent today.

The fact we have to beat every team who aren't clearly a stronger side than us, and I don't think Spurs are. I'd fancy us to beat Spurs more than Man City or Chelsea, so in that sense we had to win. We can still get top 4 but it won't be easy, and is reliant on someone like Liverpool struggling all of a sudden. I know it sounds silly given the table, but Arsenal have an extremely tough run of games and with some momentum we could try and sneak in there if they slip down to 4th.

Spurs did play well, but we also just attacked and were hopeless a lot of the time too. I thought Carrick was quite poor today, didn't really offer much when it came to positive forward passing.

januzai is the only player who gave 100% consistently imo. tom cleverly and chris smalling are laughable to be in a united team.

Smalling can be okay, but often he's a headless chicken and isn't great as a right back at all - I'm not sure he'll ever be good enough. I agree with you on Cleverley, I don't like him at all, he's not nearly good enough. He just runs around and does very little. Rafael is excellent at right back but unfortunately he seems to be injured most of the time since, well, ever.

With which players? We don't really have any DMFs or a solid back four really.

We have plenty of defenders/defensive players. They don't seem well organised or disciplined at all, which is a concern.

I didn't expect us to win the league this season, but I thought top 4 wouldn't be too difficult - it seems I was wrong. The entire squad is just very 'meh', though I'd still fancy us to win most games if we can field our strongest starting 11 - which we haven't been able to for a while now, sadly. This is of course fixable, and I do have some faith in David Moyes, but I also have plenty of questions about what he says and does. Transfers will certainly help and could hold the key. A marauding central midfield version of Januzaj (but a bit older) would be great, oh why did we let Pogba go...
