Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Dec 2011 - 4th Jan 2012]

tottenham 5 points ahead of chelsea with a game in hand bah! makes the fact wolves didn't hold on yesterday a bit of a wounder but i believe we now have 3 home games on the bounce after the cup

Well that was crap from us, We had decent amount of pressure at times just did nothing with it but pass backwards or side ways.

Downing is useless if we knew Bellamy couldnt manage 2 games in a row we need another winge rone that is good would help. Spearing also didnt perform he was barely seen doing anything

We did well once Gerrard/Bellamy came on but again too little too late but there quality and pace is something we didnt have prior to them being on the field.

Penalty was a joke was no contact what so ever Yaya dived, Considering City had 10 men they played like they didnt. Crap performance.

Not much changed from the first half. Played the better football but lacked the cutting edge needed. The scoreline flattered City though.

I thought Barry's 2nd booking was harsh; he's stepped into Agger and can only assume he's been booked because he's broke an attack up and/or for a few fouls together. The penalty was clearly the wrong decision but once the ref sent off Barry and from the angle he was looking at it, it was always going to be given.

Obviously I'd have hoped to have got something today but it's not the end of the world. 3 points off 4th but unlike our rivals, we've got 1 game less against the 'big' sides to play and of the 4 games left, 3 are at home. Need to kick on now though.

3 home games (Everton, Wolves and Wigan) and City away are our 4 remaining games this month I think.

Then we have Liverpool (A), Newcastle (H), Arsenal (A) and United (H) next 4.

That doesnt fill me with much hope being at home, Carroll is doing nothing as is Downing, Idealy we need Bellamy starting them all and now surely Gerrard can start the next game

Woeful crosses throughout the game from Liverpool, feel sorry for Carroll as a lot of people will say he had a poor game when in reality all he had was scraps and the very odd half decent ball in the box.

Don't hang around city fans do they

You'd think they wouldn't take their team for granted given their recent history pre-petrodollars.

Ha, both Malaga goals were headers from corners. Rubbish defending for both, left players totally unmarked. Madrid will probably win 4-2 though, although it's only the Copa Del Ray.

Goalkeeping standard this season has been abysmal, De Gea aside that's the third mistake Reina has made which has cost Liverpool points, Cech's been awful as well and Szczesny and Hart have hardly been faultless either (Szczesny at fault for one of Fulham's goals last night)

I think Krul has probably been the outstanding keeper in the league this season

Would you in that weather, being a weekday and the game already comfortably won?

Anyway, good performance after the shambles that was Sunderland. Shame Dzeko couldnt score but he looked a hell of a lot better.

Yes? It was like Old Trafford 09 when we beat them 4-1, genuinely surprised.

Carroll played well. He had no clear chances to score but when the ball was played up to him, he held it up well and brought others into play.

Downing looked short of confidence. At Anfield he had the beating of Richards whenever he got the ball but today he kept either coming infield or turning back and laying the ball off.

With Gerrard coming back and hopefully bringing in a midfielder and striker in the window, I'm sure we can kick on.

Friedel too maybe?

very pleased with sunderland result...was worried we would be not capable of following up sundays game

thankfully the new manger seems to be getting more out of the squad then I though possible

onwards and upwards...just in the top ten now and decent goal difference compared to those around us
