Hey all,

Heres the question....

2 of these in SLI

This

OR your suggestion? :p

I just want the best graphics card setup - I will be overclocking, and will be using water cooling

does your MB support sli?

if the game you play can ultalise sli, then the 2GTs will be faster, but if it cant then i think the GTX may win.

also what res are we talking about?

On the motherboard - it depends... I haven't built the rig yet, so if I choose SLI, I'll get an SLI board, if not, I'll stick to standard.

And I'll be using a 24" monitor.
 
The GT's in SLI look pretty promising from benchmarks whilst looking at the X2 3870 reviews but with so many dodgy review sites and the way they do reviews it's not easy to see if it's the real deal :(.

I don't know if the 256bit memory interface will be a bad thing at the highest resolutions and with AA/AF. At lower resolutions then the GT's would whoop the GTX.
 
ah, i thought you were jsut upgrading the PC in your sig.

if thats the case, i would say go for a GTX if you want to OC your CPU as intel chipsets seem to be better for that.

Yeah I know :( Some compare them with some cards, and others compare them with others :p Theres never one review the same :p

Heh no :) I'll also be using the E8400 and overclocking it further.
 
I would go for 2x cheaper non-overclocked 8800GTs and Sli them. They seem to outperform the GTX in every way in recent benchmarks and you can overclock them yourself in the future when the need arises.

Some people are beginning to say pre-overclocked GTs aren't the most reliable graphics cards in history, unsure why exactly.

Seems the best thing to do then. It would be the GTX for my advice though. If you are not happy with the performance then you could sell the GTX and pick up the two GT's as intended. Seems a lot of hassle but if you can get it up and running quickly then you will know what the real deal is without having to think about the integrity of the sites you are looking for comparable benchmarks.
 
for all those that say sli is good when the game supports it well all the big titles support it. and most of the others do but the ones that are not supported are the crappy games and crappy games do not need the power of 2 gfx cards:D
 
I noticed a good performance increase in FPS going from a GTX to 2 8800 SLi, it is definately worth it if you play hl2/crysis/fear/bioshock/cod4 and some other games. i only play HL2 & COD4

the games mentioned give a good 50%+ increase with bioshock, fear and cod4 giving more like 80%

you can forget crysis though, it runs terrible still.
 
I have 2 8800gt's sli and it certainly makes a difference in all the latest games, can run Crysis at 1680 x 1050 with a high detail custom config and 2x aa , whether its worth the extra 170 quid is questionable but it should see me out for the rest of the year
