Was playing it for awhile, game froze did it again 3 times, then 3 red rings, my friend just called me while playing GTA and his has just done the same. Anyone else having problems?

Its not the game that broke it, its certainly a game that pushes the 360 more than most, and people are playing it for longer which is why we are seeing lots of reports of 360's dying.

I take it that it is the older consoles running into bother. I have a Falcon based one and after 5 hours of playing GTA4 the console didn't seem to be running any hotter than it does when playing COD4.
killed my 360 too and also put a lovely circle scratch on the disc and whats worse is i brought it second hand and after reading on the internet about sending it back i checked the seal to find its been tapered with so im going to have to send it to ms to try my luck and see if they repair it if not ill have to try and find somewhere that does

Release day 360 here (well 3 days after to be fair, first one died on release day
) and I hammered 15 hours without a break on Wednesday and many more since. No death here 
Same as any electronic / mechanical item, the more strain on it the greater chance of failier if not 100% when leaving the factory, dont think the age of the xbox is a great issue, just the state it was in when recieved.
Long shot but try take your network cable out and try start the Xbox again.
Had 3 red lights on our Xbox yesterday, turned out it was only happening when the network cable was plugged in.
Decided to do the diagnostic thing to check what the error code is, after that it decided it wanted to work

lol yeah GTA breaks xbox's. Didnt we have this with oblivion and GoW. Look if you got a dodgy xbox then its games like this that will kill it as they stress the console more than poker or whatever else you been playing. Although it might suck its better than finding out far later when your return/repair options are more limited.
I find the fact you and your friend both getting RROD from this game highly improbable. Not impossible but i think you just said it for shock value.

Mine has done this once now, I knew I should have got it for the PS3 but I want the downloadable content
Hopefully the console will RROD so I can get it replaced.

crashes on the ps3 as well, screen just freezes.
Quick google will show that both consoles are doing it, apparently reinstalling helps. But for how long?

good news is if it does break it , returns procedure seems to be massively speeded up. Sent mine away last tuesday RROD issue, got e-mail on sunday saying coming back to me fixed. Slight fib here, as my box is apparently coming from Stuttgart, so guess it is a refurb.
