GTA4......360 or PS3

And what do I hear you say? You don't mind changing disks!? wow, Well I don't think people mind having 50gb Bluray discs with only 20gb of gaming data on either, .

I'd mind if that Blu-Ray drive made my console purchase 150 pounds more expensive and 6 months late.

ooh, be careful using Oblivion as leading the way technology wise on the PS3. According to the latest 1up show, the Bethesda devs cannot (due to PS3 memory architecture) allow players to have all available extra (digital download addon) content at once, which the 360 can apparently.

Seems pretty poor to me, but it was a complicated explanation, check the show for the fulll thing.

One of the reasons for this is the 360 has more available memory.
The PS3 OS reserves 96MB (one report has it at 64MB) of system RAM. So it technically only has 160MB + 256MB = 416MB.
The 360 has 512MB of shared memory and 10MB of EDRAM to give free AA. It's OS only reserves 32MB so techically it offers 490MB. That's quite a difference.

Oblivion doesn't stream the downloaded content, it loads it into memory. IE horse armour. And as is reported the PS3 just doesn't have the memory to load all thats been offered so far into memory. They tried swapping the items on the fly but found it hit framerates.

Oh thought this was a GTA4 thread, ok, it's a bit warm in here with alll the flames flying around, later...

And thats BS, I find it hilarious how you can say Bluray is wasting space, Considering how the 360 is already filling their DVD9 discs and having to move to multiples.

And what do I hear you say? You don't mind changing disks!? wow, Well I don't think people mind having 50gb Bluray discs with only 20gb of gaming data on either, And if triplicating the data to improve read speeds is what we have to do then, I think we'll just have to grit out teeth, And push on.

Blu-Ray isn't designed for being used as a gaming platform on its 2x drive, Sony having it as their games medium has provided many problems with game developers due to seek times of the laser not being fast enough causing slow loading, i call this workarounds or fixs (yes workarounds or fixs!) include loading to HDD or multiple data being put on disc, i would hardly call this format "pushing the boundaries of new technology" but rather "a step backwards" due to its limitations (yes limitations) in its present format.

Blu-Ray is great for films but rubbish for games "until" we get faster Blu-Ray drives

But Bluray + HD caching works. When a game comes out thats around 30gb, and gets stuck on 1 Bluray disc, and uses HD caching. Would everyone in the 360 universe be fine with having 3/4 discs instead?

My point is this, MS fanboys seem to take stabs at the PS3 for it's read speed, yet backup their 360's DVD9 choice. Which boggles my head!

Maybe they don't mind swapping discs, Fine! But I'm sure Sony people don't mind games being cached to their HD either. I mean comeon, they are there to play their games, Doesnt really matter what happens in the background aslong as it works.

I don't have a problem swapping discs on DVD9 personally. Worked for Final Fantasies! It's the silly arguement that annoys me, more than the actual "problem"
