GTX 1080 artifacting, advice please.

I got a new 1080(asus strix) and a week later I'm seeing black/green squares on the screen. It happens in games but only a few black squares will show for a split second every now and then. When watching videos the whole screen is full of flashing green squares. But it happens randomly , its not consistent. It could be fine for hours then randomly its starts halfway through watching a film.

Is it overheating because of your case airflow ?

If not, let the supplier know, and RMA it.

The idle temp is 40C.

I would return it then, expensive card that you want working perfectly.

If it's only a week old, then you will have no problems.

have you got all the necessary power leads plugged in firmly to the card and to your mobo?

Flashing green squares means your card is either overheating or overvoltaged.

Idle temp of 40c is fine, what's the temperature when you're gaming?

I've seen this issue on and old R9 290x when the GPU core has fine temps but the VRMs are overheating. Have you tried underclocking the card? However, like others have said its not worth going too much into troubleshooting considering that the card should work properly out of the box.
