Hi,

After looking at lots of options, I am verging on purchasing a GTX 1080 Ti, as I will be upgrading my monitor to a 21:9 hi-res
Will my current rig throttle the card much, am I wasting my time just now?
Hoping that it would be ok, so I can look at a major upgrade of mobo/ram/cpu next year, but treat myself to the card & screen anytime soon

I game, mainly COD & BF series

Thanks

I would imagine that yes a Xenon at 4.3 would hold back a 1080ti, but not by much, also it is the PCIe 2, rather than PCIe 3 that would make a little difference as well.
But look at it this way, you may lose 5% now, but you'd gain that back when you do upgrade.

A GTX 1070 or above can handle an ultra-wide 1440p. I would at least wait until Monday to see what prices are like then decide. If not and you can get a 1080 Ti at a decent price then by all means:)

Thanks guys, when are the new cards due to land?

I've got a Zotac 1080ti Amp Extreme running @4K with an i7 4790 which I believe is - on paper at least - somewhat inferior to your Xeon (I'm sure I'll be corrected if not!)

I have no issues running BF3,4,1 or a very heavily modded GTA V (shader, texture, vehicles you name it) on my rig @4K - I don't see how your superior CPU will hold you back although I have 16Gb RAM as, opposed to your 12, there might lie an issue with some titles perhaps, I'd do some digging on that aspect.

As said though, hang on and see what the new releases does to current prices and then I'd be more tempted to go used rather than new.
