I posted on the PC upgrade section re an upgrade on my old gear but was advised that the cpu and DDR would bottle-neck things and to get a whole to setup.

CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 (Skt AM3)
Mobo: ASUS M488TD-V EVO/USB3
Memory:: 2 x 2GB DDR3
GPU: GTX 460

One reply mentioned upgrading my DDR and the GPU as a compromise.
Seen an MSI GTX 1050 2gb card for £90. Would this and upping to 8 or 16gb DDR make a decent stop-gap without changing my whole rig gaming at 1920x1080?
Budget around £150 or so in total.

Cheers

Yeah I would add 2x2GB sticks, you can get them as cheap as £11-15 each, and then if you can stretch the budget just a little bit to a 1050 Ti....
OR.... you could try for a Radeon 560 which seems to be a fairly capable card too, though I have no real experience of the RX range.

Cool. Cheers guys. Having been out of the PC building/upgrading loop for a few years I'm trying to get my head round it all again.

Ta!

Well, picked up a used GTX970 and 8gb of RAM from MM and the difference is massive.
Am impressed for the outlay and it was worth trying this over getting a while new rig.
Playing The Division mostly and am surprised at how high I can push the gfx settings for it still to play smoothly.
It and should last another couple of years as is (I hope!)
