GTX 480 or HD5870 for gaming?

I had my 5870 since launch last year, i've just got rid of it and bought a MSI 480.

The 5870 is a great card there no doudt, but the drivers can be abit of a let down sometimes SC2 took a while to sort & this is one of it main problems when it comes to new games, plus when they go ahead and fix something they always seem to bugger something else up, hence the reason i switched to the 480.

This is the reason why im gonna skip the 6970 & AMD in the future unless that is they can get their act together and release great drivers.

All the nvidia cards i've had in the past have been great, last being my GTX 275 before i bought the 5870.

As i've just bought the 480, this will keep me going well into next year & until the GTX580 is released & come down in price to what current 480's are atm.

I've never had gaming issues with either drivers as far as I can remember but nVidia drivers have just always been that bit more polished, ie, no issues whatsoever.
When I bought at Ati 4850 quite early after release I think even video playback was shockingly poor, jerky movie playback with poor quality image. Think it took at least two driver updates until it was improved. With the 5770 (a card I really liked) I immediatley needed to use the machine as a server but I couldn't RDC to it as Catalyst COntrol Manager died each time. This was a PITA for me. Sent a bug report to Ati never heard anything. Never did find out if it worked as I was forced to buy a remote desktop product that worked in a different way than Windows Remote Desktop albeit less efficiently as it was not so well hooked into the OS as RDC is.

I'll still consider products from both companies in the future but unless Ati have a real edge (like the 5770 did with DX11 support) I would edge towards nVidia personally, unless Ati really gains massively over nVidia in the future.

Also I like to support both companies as the market needs both companies to exist.
 
tbh, what matters most to me is IQ and Performance, im not arsed who provides those the better.

whomever does, will get my business, im loyal to neither.
