GTX 550 Ti no good?

I just bought a asus gtx 550 ti gfx card for 3D vision but a friend at work said that I have wasted my money as it wont run the new BF3 game 
is this true

It will run bf3 but at mid to low settings. I think with 3d vision you will have to run pretty low settings but it should run.
Unfortunately the GTX 550Ti is not a particularly great gaming card and is really going to struggle with 3D Vision.
If you purchased it mail order you can send it back under the Distance Selling Regulations for a full refund as long as you've had it less than 7 working days.
If you purchased it from a shop then you're down to their returns policy.
This presupposes that you can afford something better.

I have to agree with the above posters - the 550Ti isn't a great gaming card for the price and for playing modern games in 3D (and presumably at 1080p) it just isn't up to the job.
If you want to play modern games (like BF3) in 3D at 1080p then you really should be looking for something on the level of a GTX 480 or GTX 570 (or faster).
