You realise the "GTX580" is 14 months late yeah?
Names aside, it's the spec that's important.

It's all up for grabs for AMD tbh, with the extra time they have to tweak settings using the 580 for comparison, they have a good chance at surpassing it, albeit if only a small amount

But come on, where is AMD...The last rumors I heard is that they have major production problems and AIb partners still don't have cores or bioses.
If that is true they may be no 69xx cards before Christmas.
this. imagime how different things would be if this true gtx480 had been launched on time.
I thought the 6870 was faster than the 5870 until i read up about it, so it seems AMD have screwed up their naming scheme as well.. someone is bound to buy one thinking they are faster
We have discussed that mate a few weeks ago, ATI marketing simple as. They will sell a few extra cards by the use of smoke and mirrors. Fair play to them they are a buisness.

That review is worthless.
10.7 Cat's for a 5970 is cutting around 20-25% of the 5970's performance off.
10.10 Cats fixed all 5970 issues for me and i gained around 20% in games.
the 580GTX is what? 15% faster then the 480GTX.
You cant Overclock it very far.
its a hot running single GPU card.
Voltage reduceing at 300W +..
Slower then a 5970.
Im sorry but a card that is over 12 months later then ATI's flag ship card should be faster, but they have been unable to do this... AMD will pull out there new flagship card and will be at the top again.
nvidia you need to pull your finger out if you want me as your new customer, I got for price/performance and thats only forund in AMD camp
the 580GTX is £399 Exe VAT as far as i have seen.
Few online retailers selling it

dont know what all the fuss is about regarding the gtx485/580, its their card they can call it " you tw*t " for all i care if it does a good job of rendering graphics then its good for us all,
just remember a few months ago when it was all doom and gloom for nvidia and people were talking about them going under( just before raven bought one lol ), well that hasn't happened and thats a good thing for us, cos if amd had it all their own way prices wouldnt come down.
i get the feeling nvidia dont really care about dual gpu cards and simply want the single gpu crown, so why is it so hard to believe that they had a 5870 beater in the form of a gtx480, and probably kept back all the 512 shader parts back for when amd get a refresh/new design,

I think you need to check the GTX470 out then for price/performance as its a bargain at £165
Have you tried playing BFBC2 - because that lost a shed load of frames on my 5970 going from 10.9 to 10.10

Its still a Single PCI-E card.
And its still king 14 months later
same price as the new 580GTX aswell...

yeah i know they had production issues, but what difference does it make with a name, its only a name at the end of the day, we all know its what the 480 shouldve been, its the performance that really matters, it it looks like a very good performer, and if the rumoured price is under £400 then its cheaper than the 480 was at launch and therefore a good deal, amd still have it all to prove with their offerengs.

Yes but the 5970 is the same price and is still faster :/ and is 14 months old!
