gtx 590 spec`s and priced

I suppose a gtx590 makes a *little* more sense than a 6990 at those prices.
A 6990 can be equalled or beaten by two flashed 6950s, a setup which costs (at current prices) £150 less.
GTX580s are still horrifically overpriced, with two setting you back at least £750, making the 590 cheaper than getting two 580s, the (main) reason for going for dual GPU cards.
Needless to say it's all painfully expensive and I'm never going to buy one, but hey, at least it's a more justifiable purchase than a 6990

So because a site lists it for pre-orders we have to automatically assume that the spec's are real?

Didn't another site list it with 700mhz+ clocks?

yes the techpowerup database list it as 752 MHz.

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/281/NVIDIA_GTX_590.html

the 612 MHz is the same as the specs that was leaked just before Christmas, so its anybodies guess what specs are correct.

in my opinion i think that the 612 MHz is the old spec that was probably planned to keep things under 300 Watts, but now that AMD has raised the bar with the 6990 using 375 Watts, Nvidia have raised the bar also. of course this is just my opinion and could be completely wrong.

All the news on a whole host of sites seem to be traceable back to the Canadian etailor that has listed the Asus gtx590 with 612 MHz.

I do hope that is wrong but we will see soon enough.

hhmmm price was always going to be around £700 if it was 2xgtx580s. But its going to struggle to beat the 6990 with those low clocks and only 3Gb (1.5Gb per card) memory. Apart from hardcore fans grabbing this over the £540 6990 would just simply be silly. BUT fingers crossed, were in for a good surprise.

why bother even releasing something like this when a £150-£200 card can max anything

A 6950 or 480 can't max anything.

There is a thing called eyefinity/nvidia surround, and resolutions don't stop at 1080p.

Why do you think these cards also come out with huge amounts of VRAM?

So 2x 480soc costing £480 are faster than a 590 costing £650-£700 ?

This is hardly rocket science. Unless you're going buy 2x 590 for 3 monitor gaming so they might sell out quick, lol.
