GTX 590 Ultra?

Why would you pay even more than a more expensive 590gtx just to then only match a 6990 performance, which itself is overpriced because 2x6950 is absolutely unbeatable in terms of top end performance and value. Its a 10% overclock(ok, closer to 15%), that you can do on any 590gtx anyway(from a quick look going up to 725-750Mhz seems about right for most 590gtx's.

2x570gtx, or 2x6950's, the only sane choices around, 2x570gtx WILL beat a 590gtx, every time, overclock further, run cooler, run quieter, as weill the 6950's which will probably beat the 570gtx's due to better xfire scaling, and unlocking to 6970's.

You can buy 2x£200 cards now and have better performance, or wait for a , probably £700 version of a 590gtx, which will still be slower.

If it HAS to be one card, wait a couple weeks for better prices and buy a normal 590gtx, or probably a better option, wait for 3rd party versions of 6990/590's and see whats good.

True, but I've heard a few horror stories with the GTX 590 overclocking, so that's why I was thinking of this card, it's obviously overclocked right out the box, so no need to worry about stability, warranty etc.

I've just sold my 5970 for 420 quid (bargain) and tbh I hated it, from issues with CF drivers not utilizing both GPU's in game's such as BFBC2 to the whole black flickering issues due to the crappy drivers of ATI.

The noise also annoyed me I don't mind hearing fans but my 5970 was pretty loud and the 6990 is apparently worse.

Sorry I should have stated I was thinking of trying 3D vision for the time being, until I get my 30 inch in about 6 months time which is why I was going with Nvidia this time.

The issue I see about buying 2x 570's is arn't I buying older tech when I'm trying to protect myself down the line, for example if I needed to add a another GTX 590 down the line in say a year?

For a start you don't want quad CF or SLI as scaling is poor and there will be more issues and bugs.
The fact that your considering a pre-overclocked card is good for warranty, but I seriously doubt it will be any more reliable than a normal 590, as they are essentially the same reference card that has had clocks (and maybe voltage) bumped a little. What happens if the card takes out your mobo, or worse when it blows up?

590's are not really newer tech at all, in that it's not a new generation or something, so that point is irrelevant. The Gap also widens when you compare the 6990 and 590 at higher res, where the 6990 beats the 590 even more.
The 590 is basically a big fail atm, and would seriously consider 2x 6950's or SLI 570's. or even a single over-clocked 580.

I'd take the AMD option over 570's with a 30" display due to the extra VRAM. I have a Dell 3008 and I have seen on occasion my 480's run out of memory when I really push things.

Unless you are running insane amounts of AA with a very high resolution or running 3D than you won't run out of Vram. I have not had Vram running out on my 570GTX even when I played Crysis 1080p with 16xAA (which actually visually makes no difference what so ever). So your probably better off ignoring this post tbh.

Anybody heard anything about next gen cards yet? I'm assuming it'll be late autumn with availability christmas time (as usual) at this point.

Which is exactly the point of such high end setups. Also a 1600p 30" display has almost twice as many pixels as a 1080p display. 2073600 vs 4096000

I am going to wait for the next series of graphic cards.

There is not more horse power from these lot to worry my 5970, and the prices seem insane ??

I would consider a CF 6950/6970 to one of this lot.

2 X 6950 = 360.....................

I still highly doubt that you run out of Vram, 1-1.5GB should be more than enough for everything.

I'm seriously considering buying a GTX 590 along with a 30 inch monitor and just noticed this beauty being released shortly:

im with drunkmaster on this, my choice would be 6950 xfire or 570 sli, there is nothing the gtx590 can do that the dual cards cant, (apart from mabe blow up)

Lol:D. Nvidia have become somewhat a butt of the joke with this card:p.

Feel free to doubt as much as you want. I'm talking about my first hand experience from owning the items in question. I also very often see memory use in the 1.3-1.4GB range. Once again over the memory allocation of the 570.

Because you're talking from experience, yes? I saw 1400MB usage at 1920x1080 on a GTX480 in Dirt 2. Now considering how many more pixels 2560x1600 is, it's not unbelievable that 1536MB could be passed. IMO 1GB is definitely not enough for 2560x1600, hence why my 5970 will be going soon.

Duel GPU on a single card can never be a good idea, Honestly what is the point, If you can afford a £650 video card you should be running a mainboard capable of duel 16X PciE, Just saying¬¬.

Codemasters stuff is particularly bad for high video memory use.
