Hi Guys, Sorry for this novel of a post but this **** has been a problem for over a month.

I built a friend of mine a computer with the following components;

ASUS Sabertooth Z77 (BIOS 1708)
GeForce GTX 670 4GB (KFA2) (Pre-Overclocked I believe) (this might be causing the problem?)
Intel i7 2700k @ 3.50Ghz (Stock Cooler)
Corsair HX650W Power Supply
16gb RAM DDR3 (2x 8GB in slots 1 & 3)
240Gb SSD
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
HP 2229H Monitor @ 1680x1050

Got to say the machine is a beast, runs everything on MAX GTA IV, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Crysis, Dolphin ect. (legal backup of my games of course)

Unfortunately after a while of playing the system hangs & requires a reboot.
Anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing this issue, seems to me like it could be a conflict of some kind but nothing stands out, also Windows Error Log doesn’t seem to show anything at the time of the crash, it makes a note of me performing a hard reset but nothing immediately before that.

I was up till about 5:30 this morning ******* around with it & I'm running out of ideas.

I have run Prime95 & that has caused the system to hang after less than 10 mins.

These were the temps when the system hung;

Having just run OCCT I have been presented with this message;

Some Memory info as well;

If you need any other specs please let me know.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Aran

Hi Aran,

What drivers are you on?

What is the temp of the CPU and GPU when gaming?

Bad memory can also cause this kind of crash. Run memtest86+ to rule that out.

Have you tried the GPU in another slot, just to rule out a faulty PCI-E socket?

My friend has just brought his computer over so I'll get back to you with some proper info but I think the drivers will be about 2 months old & both the GPU & CPU didn't seem to be running particularly hot the last time I looked I'll also run MemTest86 overnight if i can't resolve it this evening.

I have to be honest and say I don't think it is the card at fault at all and would point more at the CPU/memory as being the problem. I have had cards that crash and with Windows, it will crash it to desktop or you would be seeing artifacts in games.

Try the 306.23 drivers just to rule out the drivers as being an issue though and run memtest. A slow and labourious task but will help narrow the problem down :)

I have just run a torture test on prime95 and it has caused the computer to hang within the first 10 mins... is this likely to be a problem with the RAM?

I doubt it is the problem but some z77 boards dont play nice with pcie3 and kepler, try setting the bios to use pcie2 and see if that helps.
