Hi Guys, Sorry for this novel of a post but this **** has been a problem for over a month.

I built a friend of mine a computer with the following components;

ASUS Sabertooth Z77 (BIOS 1708)
GeForce GTX 670 4GB (KFA2) (Pre-Overclocked I believe) (this might be causing the problem?)
Intel i7 2700k @ 3.50Ghz (Stock Cooler)
Corsair HX650W Power Supply
16gb RAM DDR3 (2x 8GB in slots 1 & 3)
240Gb SSD
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
HP 2229H Monitor @ 1680x1050

Got to say the machine is a beast, runs everything on MAX GTA IV, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Crysis, Dolphin ect. (legal backup of my games of course)

Unfortunately after a while of playing the system hangs & requires a reboot.
Anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing this issue, seems to me like it could be a conflict of some kind but nothing stands out, also Windows Error Log doesn’t seem to show anything at the time of the crash, it makes a note of me performing a hard reset but nothing immediately before that.

I was up till about 5:30 this morning ******* around with it & I'm running out of ideas.

I have run Prime95 & that has caused the system to hang after less than 10 mins.

These were the temps when the system hung;

Having just run OCCT I have been presented with this message;

Sorry about that, thought they had all been closed, my mistake, could you remove the others, Thanks

Would it also be possible to move this thread to the General Hardware Section as I don't think it's a problem with the Graphics Card after all.

Thanks again.

No problem, all three were closed for a while but I had one reopened before you started this thread.

Perhaps you hadn't noticed.

Your CPU temperature is high, you should really be aiming for no more than ~70°C.

Perhaps try reseating the CPU cooler or you could invest a few quid in an aftermarket cooler.

I agree. The temps are really high! Although that answer doesn't solve the issue, a better cooler may assist?! I run an oc gtx 680 and don't run into any issues. The max temp I get under full load is around 35c with water cooling.

The CPU temperature may not ultimately be the cause of the problem but it needs bringing under control.

OcUK recommend that the CPU temperature should be kept below 70°C.

OP, what RAM is being used?

You might want to try running it at 2T for stability.

I've been asking him 4 times. Don't think he has a clue :(

Not the way to build a top of the line gaming computer.

He need to bring the temps down by disabling multithreading or reducing turbo boost / vcore. Then he need a good cooler to go with it! And of course get his RAM sorted.

Hey Guys, sorry about the late reply, I've updated the original post with some in depth RAM info.
I really appriciate all the input, I'll try reducing Turbo Boost & disabling HyperThreading.

RAM settings look fine. Try the CPU changes.

If the temps are better (at or under 70-75C), and still have stability problems, try increase the vram voltage a notch (1.515V or something), set to 11-11-11-28-2T, and do run memtest :)

If the temps are still too high (85C), you may need to reseat the CPU, but that's a last resort, especially if you don't have CPU paste.

For me, it's either memory, or CPU temps.

I had this problem. You need to set PCIe to 'Gen2' instead of 'Auto' (which will set it to 'Gen3' by default) in the motherboard BIOS. That will stop the lockups without (noticeably) affecting performance.

I'm keen to know if the sabertooth BIOS updates or 670 BIOS updates have resolved this issue.... anyone?
