GTX 780 Owners Club

Nice :)

From what I understand the lightning should be around 1.1ghz out of the box, just trying to figure out what clocks I'll need to aim for to be competing with/beating the titans in the bench threads :p

Going to dip your toe into high voltage 780's kaap?

I've decided to ditch Titan and go with the much more affordable 780's for my 900d build, should be here tomorrow looking forward to see what they are capable of before I put them underwater :)

My main priority at the moment is IB-E

After that I am not sure where to go next.

I am very tempted to get a single GTX 780 lightning for a bit of fun.

I hope I am wrong but I think AMD are going to stuff up the HD 9970 when it launches and are going to end up with a very hot running GPU. I think this is where the lightning will be fun on the benching threads.

Just wondering, but does your back yard just happen to have a money tree in it?

Been messing with the overclock and I have settled on 1202Mhz on the gpu & 7300mhz for the memory. If I want to go higher I think I will need a custom bios to unlock more voltage.

Hope this dosnt sound lazy but can anyone poiunt me towards some 7970 crossfire vs 780 sli benchmarks please? I have the 7970s and really fancy switching however I cant find any benchmarks as they are all single cards or 780 sli vs single 7970.

No

My ex decided she preferred life in South Africa

I can not drive a car - no co ordination

I don't smoke

So that just leaves computers.:D

Gotta have somethin' to keep you busy!

My Mrs is away for a couple of weeks; perfect time for a sneaky 780 upgrade! In my defense, I've been holding onto the cash since last year, hasn't been anything worthwhile to replace a 580 until now. This is a super bit of kit. Some will argue about the price, but the 8800GTX and GTX280 were launched at similar premiums, and the original 7970 wasn't far off... All of those would have been good 2 year investments. I'm hoping for the same with the gtx780, but I'm hanging onto that gtx580 just in case a quick sale is required ;)

Haven't found any reviews testing dual 7970s against GTX780 SLI, but the performance of the 7990 should be a pretty good indication of how two (non-GE) 7970s will perform.

Thanks. My 2 7970 Gigabyte windforce's only OC to 1050mhz so I should get a respectable jump if I upgrade. I know AMD will have new cards soon-ish but I fancy making the jump back to green anyways as I've always had less problems and a general smoother experience with SLI.

To anyone with with ref model 780s- how much louder would 2 of those be compared to 2 of my Gigabyte WF 7970s with the custom 3 fan cooler? I want to get 2 of the Gigabyte 780s with the same cooler but they are a bit too expensive for me I think.

Get one I know you want to :D

Plus I'll need some competition in the bench threads :o

Yeah the more rumours I hear about the 9970 the less promising it sounds. They should have sat tight until early next year for 20nm.

Its would be razor how are your temps under full load and have you over clocked?

Baring in mind room temps are up by 10c to a steady 30c due to the hot weather which of course bumps up the water temps.

Temps are very good and don't exceed the mid forties on my max overclock of 1,202Mhz on the gpu, 7,300Mhz on the memory and overvolted to 1.21v. This is while running the Valley Benchmark in a loop with a quad rad, an i7 920 chip @ 4.0Ghz in the same loop and all fans being controlled by my Aquaero XT. Fan speeds are set really low as I like things as silent as possible. If I run my GT fans at full speed (1450 rpm) the max temp on my 780 is around 37c. Obviously gaming temps are lower and vary from game to game, the temps listed were at max gpu load.

Watercooling gear and pc spec listed in sig. I hope this info helps. :)
