gtx480 fps slowdown in games

ive recently upgraded my graphics and power supply from a gtx275 and tagan 480psu to a gtx480 and an antec truepower 750w psu , when i'm playing cod black ops i'll be running at 80-90 fps and i keep getting regular slowdowns to 20-30 fps , this didnt happen with my previous setup i've defragged , ran spysweeper checked my antivirus which is kaspersky but all without any joy , one thing i didnt do was clean my previous drivers with driver cleaner , would this make any difference ? i thought with the upgrade i wouldnt have many problems playing games

TBH it's probably because black ops is a pile of ****. It has performance issues with lots of hardware for absolutely no reason.

still shouldnt be that bad/try renstalling the driver again

Is it overclocked? Driver crash and recovery caused by high clocks can cause this issue with NV cards.

Driver clean isn't really needed with nVidia to nVidia however get the latest drivers and select clean install in the options when installing.

It would also pay to run something like 3DMark Vantage or the Heaven benchmarks afterwards to see if you are getting the expected performance.

Does the gpu fan speed up when this happens ?

If it does, then the card could be throttling back the gpu clocks as it's running too hot.

Check the temps with either MSI Afterburner or Gpu-z running in the background when gaming.
