As the thread says, what rough price range am I looking at for a new clutch for my A4?

2.5 TDI if that matters :/

Course depending on your main dealer or local specialist you may end up with a whole new engines worth of bits ;)

Worth giving them a ring, what makes you think its going, how many miles has it done and what sort of driving.

Just rang Clutch clinic and they are gonna do it for 280£ (if that's the new shape and it dosent need something - dont know what)

They are based in south east london call them on 02082971380.....The need to know year of vehicle etc, perhaps you should give them a ring. :)

Well I recently got it ( month or so ago )

99 Audi A4 2.5 V6 TDI with 102k on the clock

Ive had a bit of a learning experience in buying a second hand car because I didnt take it out for a full proper test drive ( going over 60-70 )

When i got the car on the motorway i noticed power loss etc and eventually it turned out to be a duff turbo. So i sourced my own turbo and my local Audi dealer fitted it and charged me £120 ( even though they spent about 5 hours getting the old one out :P and then 2 hours to clean the engine of oil which is another story )

Anyway, now that im getting some proper power down at the wheels I do notice that sometimes its relatively sluggish and sometimes it feels like it should :/

Also, sometimes when i pull away in first gear i can feel the car stuttering a bit almost as if the clutch isnt biting properly :/ but at high speeds I dont get any of that stuttering, it just works but feels like im not getting all the power.

Its just annoying because it varies... sometimes its ok and sometimes its not :/

Stuttering from the engine is more likely to be an engine or ecu fault. If the clutch plate is on its way out it will slip, your revs will rise and you go no faster. It could be the clutch assembly but most likely the engine.

Time to sell it if is was you and not buy yourself a lemon. ;) :D

Put it in 4th and pull away, with the hand break ON.

You should be able to, if not then the clutch may well be slipping.

Air Flow Meters are a fairly common failure on these engines and can give intermittant power loss. The cheap aftermarket ones don't always work well either, so best getting the genuine Bosch part if this is the problem (£££££).

probs about £200 for 106..

got quoted £380 other day for celica clutch.. i just laughed at the guy.. if you shop about prices aint too bad... im not saying the quality of the workmanship is the same mind.. but if someone wanted £300 labour to fit a cluch for me.. id take a weekend and do it myself tbh :o

Mr Clutch have always seemed good for friends, i know a xantia one was around £130 and a couple of hours at most, a 205 was slightly more at £150 or so.

Make of that what you will, i'd put a 2.5TDI A4 at a higher cost, but no-where near the amount some people have been mentioning above?

Be thankful you dont have a 172. I thought my clutch was in need of replacement so I got a quote when I had it. Engine out job 8-10 hours. £900 ish from main dealer £650 from independent.

Maybe stuttering wasnt the right word :/ It only seems to happen in 1st gear and its more like surges of power.

Its just weird :/ It feels like I accelerate quicker by putting the power on gently / gradually than when I just floor it. If I just floor it then the acceleration just feels really flat and average. If I accelerate gradually then I can feel when the turbo kicks in and feel it accelerating better :|

Or maybe im just imagining it >.<

It does speed up, it just seems to speed up at different rates :/

If I floor it then it does still accelerate but it just doesnt feel like it should :/ If I put my foot down gradually it feels like its accelerating faster than when I just floor it :|

Sounds like a fueling/engine/ecu/sensor problem tbh.

Yeah :P that would cost money too! :P

Id like to at least have an idea before i go somewhere :|

Dont know any independant VAG specialists around where I live so it would either be the VW or Audi dealers that would have a look at it and see :P theyre not cheap
