do a hpi check to cover those things
best advice is to follow your instinct. if it's a private sale, always view at the sellers address, never view in the dark or the rain and always get a test drive. take somoeone with you for a second opinion for body work checking as you wont see everything. check paint colour mismatch which will be a sign of poor repair work meaning it has had a crash or remedial work. if it has had paint work, ask why, if it turns out to be a small car park shunt then don't worry, anything more, keep shopping. test drive you are looking for how the car drives, not how fast it is, pull off in second gear, if it stalls, the clutch hasn't got much left in it, check the brakes once they're up to temp, any fade is a bartering point for knocking the price down for required replacements other safety items wont really be an issue unless it has none or very low time left on the MOT. check the service book and interior for stains or broken equipment.
