hey guys, has anyone ever refinished a guitar?

I ask because i'm interested in buyin 1965 fender telecaster body thats in a shocking sun-burst colour (really bad refinish). its a solid ash body and apparantly it was originally blonde which is the colour i'd rather have it in if i decide to take it

Cheers

Built my own Strat from parts,so done it from the ground up..Its dirty work stripping a guitar back. At least the Tele is a reasonable shape to work on... If you have it done professionally you are looking at 250 quid upwards but it should look amazing once done. Fact is, a 65 Tele body is worth resurrecting so probably worth having it done by a pro. Obviously if you can strip it back to bare wood yourself it will cost less. One thing, if its a poly finish, not a nitro cellulose one, most places that strip doors etc wont touch it with a bargepole. They take forever to do if you are trying to strip them in a bath. That means some serious elbow work yourself.

Could try asking on the Sound on Sound forum, under the guitar section, there are some dudes there who have forgotten more about how make/repair guitars than many people ever learn. They should be able to give you some links to relevant sites and some good advice. Heres a pic of my Strat when finished shows what can be done. I did the colour had the sealing coat done professionally.
