Thinking of buying myself an acoustic guitar as I can't really fire up my Marshall stack in my new flat and need something to twiddle about on.

Many moons ago there was a huge guitar shop in Birmingham called Musical Exchange, or something similar but I can't remember where it was and don't even know if it still exists.

Can anyone shed any light on this, or recommend any other decent guitar/music shops in Brum?

There's a big Sound Control somewhere in Brum, used to live there a couple of years back for a year so I cant remember where it is, but around there - I think under a viaduct - is a couple of other independent guitar stores that are worth checking out.

There's near New Street station/bull ring, called something like 'sounds good', it's on the way to the China Town thing, near the entrance to the bull ring car park. Sorry for not being very accurate!

Selfridges did guitars at one point!

Theres a massive store called PMT (Professional Music Technology) just on the outskirts of the city centre cant quite remember where exactly. I went there a few weeks back and theres loads of guitars to choose from.

Also if you do end up going there ask them to demonstrate the biggest bass amp they have. It will blow you away!

If the service from PMT in Brum is like the service from PMT in Southend then you are onto a winner.

Good stuff, thanks for the info guys, will see if I can track down the unfortunately named PMT then.

Will post pics if I make a purchase.

It's on Smallbrook Queensway, plug postcode B5 4HP into multimap.

I used to work a couple of doors away from it.

Sound Control is your best bet, they have an excellent acoustic guitar selection. It's a really easy shop to find as well, just a few minutes walk from snow hill station (on the same road as Kerrang FM.)
