Right, so ive got an old guitar, its not one of the big companies ones, its made by a company called westbury between 1978 and 1982 but thats not important.

it has standard Gibson Les paul wiring in it (2 humbuckers, 3 way switch, tone + vol for each pickup) because last time i rewired it i did it that way, ive just taken it all out because i'm getting rid of the pickups that are in it (if anyone is interested in restoring a set of Dimarzio Super Distortions then drop me a line).

ive just had delivered a Dimarzio D Sonic, brand new for £45! and am about to order a PAF Joe for the same price!

what i'm looking at doing is wiring it so that i can use it as a humbucker, single coil north and single coil south, anyone that has seen the D Sonic will understand why.

i know "how" to wire it, from this diagram :

but what i am confused about is what push/pull pot i need!
having never done any different wiring ive never used push/pull pots.

i know i'll be needing one that has 3 different positions on it;

middle = humbucker
"in" to the guitar = bridge coil
"out" of the guitar = neck coil

do they all have this? as i have no idea whether they do or are just 2 positions, up or down.

a very confused guitarist! :confused:

i think i know how i can do it now, i'll wire that pickup in its own little circuit of its own with a 3 way on/on/on switch in the same way my 2 humbuckers are wired as that works, 1 way is the top bucker, 1way is the bottom and the middle is both, dont know why i didnt think of that before.

that diagram in my first post doesnt make any sense to me so i wouldnt be happy with it!

if anyone can help explain that first diagram then by all means do, but i'm gonna have to actually mod the guitar because i havent seen any 3 way push/pull pots!

You would probably be better asking on a guitar forum dude

Cant remember the one i used to use but if you find a good one there should
be enough techies on there to sort you out :)

just asked on jemsite, should get some replies on there.

thought i'd ask here first because i know there was a hefty load of guitarists floating around here the other day!

Will be nice to hear what sounds it produces..

hopefully unlike when you have something like a Dimarzio Super distortion, and tap the coils you get a very very similar sound between them. with this one as one half has pole pieces and the other half has a solid bar they will sound completely different!
