Gutted about my Gigabyte 460 GTX 1024mb

Grrrr!

I just bought a 460 768Mb as it was £35 cheaper than the 1Gb version.

Now the difference is only £15 I'd probably have gone for the 1Gb!

Ah well, hardware prices fluctuate. Love the card, so I'll just overclock the nuts off it :D

I bought mine a few days ago too for £152.12. The following day, the same store had it for £123.92 - granted it was a misprice and the store corrected the price, but some people managed to get it delivered to them for that much.

you should count yourself lucky i bought a XF BE 5970 just over a month ago from ocuk for £469

and now its still the same price lol but the bad news is im having massive issues trying to sell it lol i had to drop the price from 400 to 380 and now 350 im loosing money big time.

yeah ive seen the pathetic offers in your thread.

I know the feeling mate, i was down there a few months back to get a 5870. Bought it, had problems, fixed it then like a week later it was £20 cheaper. I was ****** tbh but nothing you can do.

Well, I thought I`d got a "bargain", but the card that arrived today doesn`t seem too clever.

I haven`t managed to run any game (Fallout 3, Oblivion) for more than a few minutes before my machine locks up. I`ve tried MSI Kombustor, and that`s worse, usually locks even sooner.

I`ve tried Kombustor on both Win 7 64 (SSD) and XP 32 on my old hard drive, but I get the same problem. I`ve backed off my CPU to default settings, and the GTX460 is also at Gigabyte`s settings.

I was running a HD4850 previously, so I simply uninstalled CCC and the drivers before installing the new card and the latest NVIDIA drivers.

Mmmmm........ my maybe I should have stuck with ATI. I suppose the next thing to do is to test the card in a friend`s PC, unless anyone has any suggestions.

Last thing I tried with the GTX460 was Heaven benchmark - it froze before I could even run the test.

Just popped the HD4850 back into the machine, and it`s done 9 minutes on Kombustor, and about to tackle Heaven. I reckon the new card is a dud.

BTW. PSU is a 700W Coolermaster Silent Pro, CPU is a 550 BE (only running 2 cores @ default at the moment).

nvidia 280s were funny my mate brought one for like 400 few weeks later 250-260 lol. also the xl or xt 1800 on here :D some good rages when the 1900 came out few weeks later and price plumetted

I bought a 1GB overclocked Asus HD4870 with custom cooler from OcUK about 18 months ago, £119.99 brand new. Think it was a bargain TBH, as it's only recently that the similarly-powerful HD5770s have dropped under this figure.

Just wish GTX 470's were down to £120ish...

A friend wanted the MSI 460 back when they were £180ish but the week he asked me to order it the price had gone up to £195. He paid it as it was the card he really wanted (and would fit his system with out major changes).

That was only about two months ago. I haven't had the heart to tell him the prices now. He got the Corsair TX650 the week before they went on offer for £20 less too.

There is rarely a perfect time to buy hardware but sometimes it is really gutting to see how massively prices change over a short(ish) period.

Pathetic?

Something is worth as much as someone will pay for it.

You would have to be stupid to drop 470quid on old tech when the new stuff is only a few weeks away.

This. Second hand gpu prices have been quite silly past few weeks as well IMO. 5870' s for circa 200, 5850s circa 170/180 and 5770's circa 100!

for 200/180 why not just get a 6870/6850 etc?
