Hey guys, sorry but this is an ebay related situation.

Ok I sent this guy 2 x 1Gb Crucial PC3200 RAM and he sent me the following message: "Q: I instaled the memory you sent me, and it blew my motherboard, burnt out the memory connector"

Is this possible? Why would the RAM sticks cause that to happen?
I don't know how to reply since they were good sticks afaik and fully working.
Is it even possible that it was not the fault of my sticks but of his mobo or bad installation?

Cheers for any input.

if they worked fine at your end then i cant see how the ram has caused it

sounds like hes trying to get out of paying for them...

Get him to take it to someone/a reputable repair place that can verify what caused it to burn out.

Explain you'll repay him if he's right, but ask for proof from a third party :)

is the ram still fine? if so offer a refund and have it back :]
ram not faulty ;]

I dont fully understand..

It says Q which implies a question, yet he doesnt ask a question.. merely tells you that your memory broke his mobo..

I would be inclined to send a Q back

"Q: I have used those memory modules and when correctly installed on my motherboard they did not cause it to 'blow'"

How the hell could a RAM module cause a slot to "burn"?! He's talking nonsense.

Politely point out that what he is claiming is impossible if the modules were suitable for his motherboard (his responsibility) and correctly installed (his responsibility). :D

Seems he's trying to scam you into giving him his money back.

If the RAM worked fine for you I would say either he has realy done a bad install and broken his mobo, in which case it's his fault anyway. Or like I said; scam.

i dont think that this is even possible, i smell a scam or hes a noob and broke his own pc, how would he even know that memory slots got damaged?

when i used to repair dell computers we had so many computers received with badly installed memory, all you get is that computer will not start at all, or it wont post etc

Maybe he tried to put the in the wrong way round and, when the notch prevented him, used a hammer.

His fault.

Has he already payed you for them?? I would have thought that he must have had a dodgy memory slots on the MOBO or that that he didnt correclty install the memory properly to cause a burn out. TBH could be a hundred reasons. Depends what agreemnt you had over the memory for payment.

ask him to send you a photo of the memory slots on his board

If the photo comes back and indeed shows burn marks, get him to post them back to you for testing

Unless your memory had inbuilt power packs :D it is impossible for memory to fubar a mobo. You could fubar the lot by installling the ram sticks with the power on or by overclocking the **** off it. Tell him you tested the ram before you sent it & are Confident it was fine. Also tell him ram does Not carry a charge so what the **** is he on about, Numpty :p

For the Pedantics.
Yes it may carry a Tiny tiny charge but residual & certainly not enough to blow a Mobo.

I dont know if your being serious or not? How do you expect RAM to work?

ofcourse not  and I meant it in a sense that it would give out power as to perform a blow out you need a power source and as obvious as it is (even though I am now pointing it out to you) everyone knows that ram doesnt hold a power source :p

No, don't indulge him! You start doing things like that then you're effectively admitting he might be right (which he isn't!), and it would like bad to any mediation service or a claims court. Would also look like a pushover who doesn't know much. Would also be a waste of time...
