Gone......
Well, we all got off work tonight in a bit of a tiff (had a stove that was a right PITA right before finishing up), so a couple of us wanted to relieve some frustration.

Cue a 2003 Pontiac Trans Am, a 1995 Dodge Neon, and a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am Supercharged playing "follow/change the leader" on a deserted highway!! :D

I started out at the back as I'm the only one with a lunchbox, so I took longer to get the car moving.

As soon as we cleared town and had an open view of the plains, I planted the throttle. All 132 horses came alive and I blew past the other two doing about 90 and climbing. Got to 105 as I came past the front of the T/A. Pulled in and slowed it back to 75.

Next came the Grand Am. He did a decent flyby at 110 and pulled in in front of me and backed down to 75.

Then came the young guy in the T/A!! ;)

He was doing in excess of 135 (GPS) when he cleared the Grand Am!!

He then backed it off to a sedate 120 and egged us other two on to keep up.

So we did.

I kept to the back to let the boys with better headlamps light up the road (Neons have notoriously horrible headlamp baskets), so I was eating exhaust for 15 miles at breakneck speeds.

But it was all fun until we saw headlights on the horizon. Cue three sets of brake lights coming on and a little smoke from 12 tyres as speed was cut to a "legal" quantity VERY quickly!!

Meh, we were coming up on another town, so we would have had to slow down anyways. We stopped and compared notes as to who did what/when, etc. Then the guy with the T/A did a rather impressive two-wheeled smoke trail leaving!! :D

Ah, well. It made for a fun (and quick) drive home.....

Sounds pretty cool :) Though it sounds like you were a little underpowered if I'm 100% honest :p

I love the American obsession with big lazy engines.

I just returned from the states where I hired an "intermediate" car.

The car I was assigned was a 3.5 V6 Pontiac G6 GT. It only outputs 201hp and doesn't rev that high (5,750 or something) but makes for such effortless cruising as it pulled so well from throughout the rev range. The 4 speed auto (with manual mode) was also actually surprisingly good!

And here I had the impression from watching american TV/Films that you guys start to brick it when the speed tops 60mph :p

"Que camera shot of speedometer doing a RIPPING 65mph!!!! Tense music...... sweating driver...... OMG OMG 70mph!!!!!" :D Oh and not to forget the bajillion gear changes if they happen to have a manual.

I know when I went to the states I was thinking "Cool, nice big engine - should be quick". But weighed a tone and went slow as anything :(.
