For West Midlands Ambulance Service :D

I've been trying to get into the emergency services for a few months, and I thought I might give the Ambulance Service a try, and its paid off, I have a formal interview on the 1st of March.

If I get it, i'll be an EMD Call Assesor, being the first point of contact for a 999 Caller..

Starting salary £12,942 plus up to 25% unsocial hours (£16,117 p/a) rising after 4 months upon successful completion of training to: £14,473 plus up to 25% unsocial hours (£18,046 p/a)

On £13,500 here atm.. so that will be a big increase for me, and a bit more of a career me things..

Need to get some posh digs me thinks :D

Couldnt do that I dont think. Have heard a few played back and the operators are fantastic. Listened to one where a woman and her kids were trapped in the house that was on fire, she was flapping big style (as you would be), got worse when the 5-0 arrived before trumpton and she was screaming out the window at them.

The operator saved that womans life that day, yet they rarely get any recognition.

"got worse when the 5-0 arrived before trumpton and she was screaming out the window at them."

what are the 5-0 and trumpton? that sentence confuses me.

I had a friend in school who's Dad did a similar job, he was on 999 once cos he took a call where some guy had been out hunting or something and shot himself in the leg and he basically kept the guy alive by just talking to him and telling him what to do.

Much respect for those people, thankfully I've never had to speak to one of them. (while they're at work anyway)

And good luck with the interview.

Good luck mate, I'm in a similar position myself; I have an interview next week for a position with an IT company, if successful could see a pay increase of up to £7,000.

The ignorant youth of today...;)

5-0, short for Hawaii 5-0, classic 70's TV cop show...

And Trumpton? "Pugh! Pugh! Barney McGrew! Cuthbert! Dibble! Grubb!"

Good luck with the interview mate!

That pay sounds pretty poor! :(

Good luck mate.

Best of luck mate, my journey started back six months ago when I applied for trainee technician in the NWAS Greater Manchester, and low and behold I passed it all! Still have another three month until I start my training as I didn't have a C1 driving entitlement when the last course was starting.
