Half Life 2 Ravenholm...

Well i have to say I was relieved when Ravenholm was over......was very creepy indeed! :D Loved it too tho!

Doom 3 was damn scary as anything I've played on the PC, it must be up there as the scariest! It also was helped by the fact you had to switch to your flashlight! those mod's ruined the game a bit and the atmosphere :(

Someone mentioned Res Evil 2! Well I will agree there but you couldnt beat the tension of playing the game through from the other side of the crash ;) That was the scariest way to play that game as you were tracked by that huge goliath of a thing stalking you throughout!

A mention has to go to the remake of Res Evil 1! Created a lot of atmosphere on the gamecube! Not as scary as the original mind you since I knew what to expect!

Does anyone know where I can get some save game points for HL2?

I was quite happily playing through it, and then had to re-format and I really don't want to have to go from the very start again.

http://www.geocities.com/madman250/Halflife.html <-- they seem to have some listed for every level, alternatively you could I guess just load up the game, bring down the console and type:

/map CXAX

where X is the numbers, such as C1A1 should be the first level.

ravenholme has NOTHING on AVP1. Goddamn that was bloody scary. Not sure if it was scarier than cradle, as I didnt get that far. Just downloading some savegame files so I can play from where i left off :)

Has everyone forgotten clive barkers undying or the haunted mansion level in the vampire game for scares? Also not played the PC version but the 360 version of condemmed can make you paranoid enough when you leave the house that you look down every alley way.

Ravenholme was easily the best level in HL2. Without wanting to spoil it for anyone who hasn't finished it, it creates a nice series of themes in the game:-

Orwellian Nightmare -> Bond/Bourne style escapism -> The Rock / Die Hard style against the odds (Storming the Prison) -> Horror fest (Ravenholme) -> WW2 seige -> Sci Fi palace

Not sure they're all in the right order, but it worked well.

That mansion in Vampire bloodlines is without doubt the scariest bit of any game.

Condemned was very good on the PC as well. Let me just rip a pipe off the wall and beat some crazy lunatic over the head with it :D

you got the storm the prison and horror fest round the wrong way

the vampire mission is good the first time you do it but lacks scariness when replaying.

Ravenholm was cool imo, spark the gas and burn the zombies :D.
Any idea where I can get something called : ''Ravenholm: The lost chapters'', I've seen it once in someone's steam game list, but can't find anything about on google.

AvP2's first marine level was probably one of the scariest things I've played. You don't see a single alien in all of it, but at the time, you don't know that, and you're expecting them at any second. There's a bit where you're crawling under a walkway, and a pipe and wire drop through a grate in front of you and akjhasfkerluiwefghelfgaMYGODAHHH.

FEAR though, that was more scary. Where Doom3 was a glut of scariness, FEAR was more subtle and like to throw the scary bits at you carefully and definately not at expected times. Consequently I hate that little girl!.
I thought FEAR was rubbish for the scariness factor myself. Every time something vaguely weird or generic-horror-film-little-girl-related would happen, it was blatently pre-shadowed by the head-slappingly obvious radio static and your HUD going funny. It might as well have just flashed "WARNING: SCARY PARANORMAL CUT SCENE AHEAD" across your screen. It got to the point where I actually was more relaxed when the "scary" bits were coming up, because I could run around knowing there were no enemies ahead.

Agree. Too predictable to be scary.

Yea, Stalker's the only game I've ever conciously jumped at - when you first meet .......well, won't ruin it for you - but when you first go into the bunkers.

I was on a single-track walkway as well, couldn't go anywhere (anomaly behind me) but so just started emptying my magazine and shouting! :D

Great fun.....

This thread made me restart HL2 on the pc as i never finished it on the xbox.
and guess what...

just got thru Ravenholm last nite - was sat here at 1am with headphones on, sooo creepy, especially love it when you set fire to the zombie things.

Ive never gone through Ravenholm without cheats.

Just too scary for me.

Even though I finished Condemned and F.E.A.R whilst being scared ********, I just cant do it with Ravenholm.
