It's not just the glasses. Go back and look at some release dates of games in certain series. We got 3 Halo games and 3 Gears of War games within something like 6 years lol. New stuff was coming thick and fast and it all improved in some way. These days we're lucky to get 1 game every 5 years from these big studios and they usually just have tiny improvements.

HL2 was and still is the biggest leap in gaming if you ask me. I still remember being round my friends house watching that tech demo they did for it and being blown away more than I've ever been.

As was the original.

There are a few games which really raised the bar or started new genres. I'd put System Shock 2 up there as well. The original Doom, Freespace, Freelancer, Elite, WoW, Alien Isolation, Witcher 3. I has been a long time before we really saw something new or amazing. Maybe BG3 but it didn't really do anything new vs old RPGs, it just did it well at a time when we are saturated with rubbish.

Most modern games are shovelware really. Not a lot of attention to detail, poor writing, poor design overall. No real respect for the art. Made as quickly as possible and thrown up for sale for £70. Just looks shiny because they licenced an expensive engine.

Ahhhh much better, I can browse the PC Games forum without having a heart attack every time I see a new post in this thread now! :cry:

Here's hoping the thread needs another title change tomorrow, but I doubt it :(

This always happens :p Anytime there's an event, Half-Life 3 gets thrown in the pile.

Greggs could announce a new pasty and someone will be out there like "I just heard from a reliable insider source that Valve are attending Greggs HQ for the opening event and we are likely to see Half-Life 3!!!!!!!111"

It does seem there is a little more traction to the current rumors. Nothing concrete but there were hints in the recent documentary.
 
Surely by now someone who, as a kid, played HL2 and wanted a HL3 to seal the story, has by now grown up and become an adult, joined valve, and is now working on HL3?!
