Swiss rock band, Halfway Homebuoy have signed a publishing deal with Foghorn Records in Sydney, Australia. Jack Davison, James Davison and Christopher burn, all from Co. Durham, England signed the deal with bandmates Nick Potter from Sydney and Micheal Irion from Zurich on the 15th of March 2011. The three childhood friends from Durham had moved to Sydney with the rest of the band in November after forming a year earlier in the Swiss Alps where they had been working as bartenders. The move came after the bands early success, having reached the semi finals of Britains largest band competition 'live an Unsigned' and having two demo tracks used in the award winning multisports movie 'Play Gravity 2' in 2010. Coupled with the growing success in the Mountain resort town of Verbier, where they had been based since they had established in late 2009, the five wannabes decided to take their music out of their European base and have a shot at breaking into one of the worlds largest music scenes. Now, five months after arriving in Australia's, the band have signed a three year publishing deal with a veteran of the music industry, Marshall Cullen. Tour manager of the Hoodoo Guru's, Cullen, Managing Director of the Sydney based label 'Foghorn', has signed a 3 year deal with the 'buoy's' and has overseen the production of their first 6 track EP witch was realeased on the 5th of August.
The band began playing in Verbier when Jack (Vocals, songwriter) and James Davison (Rhythm guitar, songwriter) reunited with lead guitarist Chris Burn (songwriter) with whom they attended School with throughout the 90's. With the addition of two other bartenders, Mike Irion (Drums) from Zurich, Switzerland and Nick Potter (Bass) from Sydney, Australia, the five piece began to play around the local venues around the Vallais region in the Swiss Alps. Taking time off work they all then made three trips to the North East of England in early 2010 to be part of Britain's largest band competition 'live and unsigned' where they reached the semi finals, held in Newcastle's Tyne Theater, having only played together for 6 months. Spurred on by this encouraging start the group then recorded a live Demo in Zurich which was later used in the Award winning multi-sports movie 'Play Gravity 2 (the other side) which stars world renowned athlete's such as Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott. One track was also made into a music video by Italian filmmaker Guido Perrini, on location in Switzerland.
With ambitions high the band decided to give up their night jobs and take a once in a lifetime shot at playing music professionally which meant moving out of the small rural backdrop of the Alps to a city. The decision was made to move to Sydney, home of bassist Nick Potter, and in November 2010 the five made their way across the Pacific Ocean to have a go at breaking into the Sydney music scene. Working day jobs in Factory's and building sites around Sydney, the five musicians finally got their break when they were contacted by Marshall Cullen of Foghorn Records. In February they met up with Marshall who would then offer Halfway Homebuoy a three year publishing deal which included the release of an EP which was recorded in the famous Damien Gerard Studios with the talented producer Russell pilling. The Ban hope of following in the footsteps of some of the Studios old patrons such as INXS, the Devinyls , Hoodoo gurus, and American Idols Randy Jackson. The band will be touring The Ep around Australia throughout the summer months with spots at Stomping Ground Festival and The Sydney Blues and Roots already confirmed. Two of the tracks from the Ep are set to be used in the new Xavier de la rue Snowboard film (This is my winter) which will be released before the start of european winter season 2011,2012. The buoys Are starting to work on material for an album to be recorded in the new year and are working Towards a European tour for July and August of 2012
