HALO 3 Official Thread

just thought I'd offer my view

SP this game is drab, I found the levels drawn out towards the end, just hoping to get to the end.

as for MP, I'm sure it's great, I loved H2 MP, but haven't had the chance to

I'm finding the matchmaking system increasingly annoying - with half of my evenings spent playing some of the more dodgy gametypes.

If you formed a team with mates, or wanted to have a tournament with a bunch of guys, how would you set it up with matchmaking system? Would everyone involved have to be on your friends list so you could create custom games?

Matchmaking is great IMO, it saves a lot of arguements over who is on whos team, what gametype to play and what map to play it on. Plus it is 10x more fun to play with a team of friends against randoms. Custom games are used for when I want to create my own variations of gametypes and play them.

They have actually just recently sorted out some of the playlists:

If you're not happy with something moan to them about it and if enough people agree Bungie will do something about it :)

There have been huge 1000 post threads moaning about it on the Bungie forums.

The problem with matchmaking is quite often - for me and my mates anwyays - it'll choose a map and gametype none of us want to play. Then you're stuck playing it for 10 to 15 mins. Surely there's some combinations of map and gametype you much prefer to the others?

When there's 8 or so of us online we tend to play Infection and Assault on High Ground and CTF on Valhalla - it's awesome. Mixing the teams up, trying new tactics. You could play matchmaking for days and not once get the combinations you enjoy playing the most. But you're right, I just want to get it off my chest. Bah humbug!

How many maps are there in Halo3 btw?
I can't have seen any more than 6.

11 with the shipped game and a map pack due out before the end of the year :)

I know what you mean, all I was getting was Crazy King in Lone wolves (and King of the Hill is my most hated gametype) I've only done around 60 matchmaking games so Its not bothered me that much yet. What they should do is if your playing Team Slayer and get some crap like shotty snipers, if it gets the Veto the gametype should be switched to a default one such as Team Slayer for the Team Slayer play list, Slayer for Lone Wolves, 2 flag CTF for Big Team Battle etc.

It was Krono's idea originally, which I agree with 100%

I must admit, even as someone who's hardly played Halo online in either Halo2 or 3, the auto-aim is quite annoying. Surely they could have just had it so that when you hold LB it starts to track someone, or something similar?

A simple option to disable auto tracking would be great.

I was about to say, I can remember saying something very much like this last night ;)

To sort out a tournament you would need one or more of the participants from each team to be on one another's friends lists.

I prefer to do match making myself especially when there is less than 6 players in a party, but even up to 8 players. It generally resolves most "I don't want to play this arguments" as well as "Can this person and this person please swap teams as its unfair" arguments. It seems no on likes Alrik and me playing on the same team, and when Alrik, cadman and I are all in the same party the 3 of us feel hard done by because one of us is going to have to be fighting the other 2 often with no team mates of equivalent skill to the other pair. Both Alrik and I have made the comment in the past "How is it I can get X kills and still lose?" (X usually being over 25)

For this reason I tend to try and stick to Social Slayer when there is 5-10 or Ranked if there are 4 players that I play with regularly.

its only above 10 players when I tend to play custom games. or when I am waiting for other players to join.

We do the same sorting out with my mates, but it's never a chore. Everyone wants fair teams and mixing them up by skills is hardly difficult. As for maps and gametypes, it's pretty unanimous which ones most people prefer - especially when it comes to team games. Given the choice, i'll always play with and against friends on the maps and gametypes we want to play on.

I very much like matchmaking but it needs a few tweaks like the default game type idea or being able to veto game type and map separately. I don't like playing against my friends at all as I really enjoy the banter. I only play with about 3-4 people regularly anyway.

Don't get me wrong I like playing with all skill levels and loads of people and I try to balance the teams as best as possible. but sometimes its not possible to balance the teams and keep everyone happy. The other night the "Best Balance" had alrik on one team and myself and possibly cadman on the other. We only scraped through wins by a few points, however Alrik was busting out scores like 35 kills and 5 deaths. So whilst the team balance was fair for 9 people in the party 1 person was finding it horrifically unfair that he was by far the best player in the game, contributing 66% of the kills and 10% of the deaths but still losing.

I had a similar situation another night where I think it was Cadman and Alrik were on one team and I was on the other team. I too was busting out huge scores, but no matter what I could not win a game. It was immensely frustrating, but you cant blame anyone because its the fairest teams. And any changes would make it very one sided.

So thats one reason I stick it on social slayer, so everyone gets to have everyone else on their team at least once a night and hopefully everyone gets to win a game or 2.

Just do it now IMO, You can always do campaign scoring in Co-op with the skulls on which is 10x more fun :)

If you need a hand I still have a few levels I need to do and dont mind going through it again. 2 of our 4 players got the RRoD in the same week (SiD and Creature) and Dannyjo wont want to do it all again I dont think with just me and him ;) So thats my group all gone.

No mate your wrong, I'd be happy to finish those levels with you and or play through the whole thing again with Nokkon as well.

I just thought you would rather be doing other things since I havent seen you much in Halo 3 yet except when we did Co-op, its my fault in the first place Im missing them because I cant wake up at the correct time :p

Anyway I'm begining to learn the levels much like I did with Halo 2 so we can push through it in a couple of nights easy. I also know where all the skulls and terminals are if you want help with them for your achievements.

I remember that game being in Halo 2 where it was You, Cadman and Wingzero Vs Me and a few others who I cant seem to recall. There was zero communication on my team so I was just losing it because I was getting all these double kills, running riots etc and getting nowhere. I wasnt getting mad at anyone in particular just very frustrated that I was playing my best and getting nowhere because I was getting tripple teamed by you all and barely surviving.

I havent really played much since we finished it for Creature and myself. I'm happy to play through again though to help others or finish off your levels. Just let me know when. I have a little study to do tonight and then I shall be on.

Riddle me this!
