As the drama surrounding Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward continues to unfold, Activision has dropped a new bombshell: the company has signed a 10-year publishing agreement with Bungie to "next big action game universe to market."

Activision will have the rights to publish the new intellectual property "on multiple platforms and devices." Does this extend outside Xbox 360? The press release doesn't say, but it seems likely.

In a bizarre coincidence, the news comes the same day Halo: Reach moves into open beta for select users, while the rest of the gaming world waits for the official switch to be turned on next week.

Bungie remains partnered with Microsoft for Halo: Reach, scheduled for a release this fall on Xbox 360. Microsoft acquired Bungie back in 2000, converting their sci-fi shooter, Halo, into a breakout Xbox launch title. Bungie also produced Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST for Microsoft. The studio managed to broker its independence from Microsoft just days after the launch of Halo 3 for Xbox 360.

It'll be nice to see what Bungie can do when its not Halo, but i dont know if they'll look for a PC market or i they'll just stick with consoles. Will be very interesting to see what they can do on the PS3 after working exclusively on the 360 for so long.

It seems Activision knowing that Infinity Ward have left them have decided to replace them with 'the other' big console shooter creators. I look forward to them all leaving in a few years.

Oh well, its not like you can blame them. They made the same **** several times over already with Halo so its not entirely unpredictable they'd want to sign on with Activision who actively seek out **** to release annually and get as much money as they can from every release. Bungie probably just want money and don't know what they've got themselves in to :p

Bungie has made some of my favourite games off all time including marathon. Hopefully this is good news, don't blame people for being pesimistic though!

people need to understand the difference between Infinity Ward and Bungie, Bungie signed a deal similar to that of Respawn with EA, publishing only. That means both Bungie with Activision and Respawn with EA are free to persue their own ideas and IPs.

Kotick doesnt OWN bungie like they do with IW.

Two things.

1. Please don't give us a Halo clone for the PC (or more Halo games).

2. Please don't ruin Call of Duty completely, leave it to die now.

I doubt very much that they'll have anything to do with the Cod IP. It quite clearly states a new IP in the article.
