Couldn't care less about my own safety generally, barring the obvious washing hands after the toilet and so forth, but if it involves other people I generally be a lot more careful. For instance, if I'm cooking a meal for myself I often barely bother to clean the knives I use, but if I'm making a meal for other people I'll go the whole hog and wash every surface and my hands before even starting.
I made this argument when we put automatic taps in our last work. What's the point of how clean the tap handles are? You're about to wash your hands!PS> The most pathetic advert i've seen however, is the one where they say how many germs are on a soap pump dispenser... Well... You push it, but then soap comes out which you wash your hands with! So what does it matter how dirty the handle is? As your washing your hands after!!!?

But then again I've never been struck down because of it so... On the other hand I am very clean when dealing with others food (wash hands before etc as you say).
