How many people out there get great satisfaction when they hand in their notice.

Also, a quick query - I dropped my notice on my boss' desk this morning. He has refused to meet with me this morning for 5 minutes, stating he is too busy. He wont be back into the office today, but i have dated the notice from today. So i take it the day i put on his desk becomes the day i handed it in?

Obviously my new employer is eagre to get me working asap, and i dont want to leave them waiting any longer than i have to!

I would take it to your bosses boss under those circumstances as you want to be sure it goes smoothly. To be honest your Boss is just being an **** everyone can find a spare 5 minutes and then if they are a good company arrange a proper meeting with someone outside your department to discuss why your leaving so they can improve in future.

I would do this, it sounds like he's being awkward on purpose so take it a further step up the ladder to make sure everything is done is good time.

Sounds like the boss is one big jackass, 5 minuits for a meeting and he could not do it. Waste of time. I would have done the same as you. You would think a company would want to have a 5 minuit meeting just to improve it for future people but obveously not. I feel just like a1ex2001 said in his post above.

Make sure he has read the letter, otherwise go to HR. You must make sure they are aware of the letter contents.

It's not uncommon for people to not have 5 minutes to spare. We all have those days and it's important not to judge unless you know exactly what the person is doing.

He sits directly opposite me. He was chatting with a collegue of mine for a good 20 minutes before he left. He replied to an e-mail i sent after i asked for the meeting before he was chatting to my collegue. Oh, and he even elected to walk over to the other office which takes 15 minutes, rather than drive. So he really could have spared the time.

Hes still not read the letter. So I supposed i should forward a copy via e-mail to HR? Its in another office..

Go on then. Usually I'd wait and ensure the manager found out first, manners and all that.
HR route will do fine.

GL with it and the new job.

Heres a question regarding handing your notice in. Is it wise to wait until you get a copy of the contract before giving the old employer the finger even if you have had an offer via email from the agency dealing with the position?

I'd wait until you have the offer from the employer. I got screwed by an agency in the past by handing in my notice (one week) on their say so, then the job fell through and I was left jobless as my other post was filled immediately.

Listen to this man.

Never jump a ship unless another is right by it.

good luck in the new job mate, was good to catch up with you the other week :)

my aunt said you're welcome back the next time we go and visit her

My boss decided to speak to me at 5:20 today, and asked if I could work an 8 week notice, as a favour to him. He will be in a position where the person that would have been my new boss will not be available for at least 6 weeks. So, basically, there is be no one about who can do my job for a minimum of 2 weeks..

I said i would ask, but I know that my new employer will not like that one bit. Its unlikely they will agree to such a request, so chances are its not gunna happen, and in a month i shall be off to a 25% payrise :D
