This came at a pretty good time actually. I was just thinking about writting mine to give in on Saturday.

So want a new job closer to Uni.

The period of notice I am required to give in accordance with my employment contract/job description* is XXXXXX; therefore my last working day will be XXXXXX. I am entitled to XX days holiday per annum, and thus pro rata to my leaving date I am entitled to XX days. In the current year I have taken XX, and therefore my last day in the office will be XXXXXXXXX as I will take my remaining leave from XXXXX/I understand that I will only be paid up to and inclusive of XXXXXX as I have taken additional leave to my entitlement.*

I would like to place on record that I have enjoyed my time working for the company.*

* Delete as appropriate.
 
Little word of warning, don't burn bridges. You might end up working with/for the same people or they may have to give references for you in the future. Mention how much you've enjoyed working there, how they made you feel part of the team etc etc even if it's a lot of drivel!

At least then you can come back as thier boss one day and there be no hard feelings :p
 
In reply to this burning bridges stuff, remember that in a reference these days a company can't really say much about you. Pretty much all they can do is confirm you worked there when you said you did and what job you did.

Mine was a one line notice, my manager even suggested that.

if you get a bad reference....
they can praise you as much as they want, they just cant say anything bad
if you get a reference that simply confirms you worked there your new employer knows it's a bad reference
 
I find stripping naked and humping the leg of your boss while declaring undying love infront of a customer. Normally gives away the fact u no longer wish to work there

Not entirely true, all they can do is tell the truth. If you have in your time there, made lots of mistakes (all on record) and lost the company millions, there is nothing to stop them to say exactly that. What they can't do is lie and say anything they can't prove.

True.

If I wrote a referance for someone who was always late, I would put that they were bad timekeepers. it is only fair on the company that is employing them.

If you believe you can write such a reference with impunity, you'd best get some legal advice before you do so. That's some good advice right there :D
 
ah, my bad, that was the understanding i'd always taken
so is it that you cant write anything negative unless you have evidence of it?
