It's just occured to me how bad my handwriting is. I've always known it was bad but now it's got beyond bad and I can barely even read it myself. I've tried everything from writing slow and taking my time to writing fast but nothing helps. I've even tried every pen going but it still looks like a 5 year olds first attempts. Has anyone got any advice for me on how I can improve it? I'd post a sample but i'm actually ashamed of it so won't.

Thanks

I got lots of help at school. you can get sheets, which show you the shape of the letters, then you just right them out 10million times.

None of that helped. My mum showed me how to do joined up hand writing in a relativley curvey and loopy way, slightly old fashioned looking, but if i take my time and use a gell pen its relativley neat and tidey.

but the best thing is get a book, and start copying it. Try and get some example sof diffrent handwriting styles and see what suites you. After that its just practice and taking your time.

get a book on it or there are online resources.

I have terrible hand writing and I used to be embarrassed about it and tried to fix it but never could stick with it, you need to retrain yourself hard.

It is possible if you are dedicated. But I just don't care now, bad writing is more common these days :)

As someone has already said not using cursive can make your writing neater. Also try using a pencil. Seriously it can help. I have seen peoples handwriting go from illegible to positively exquisite all because of a pencil.

Once you get the knack of it with a pencil try a pen with a nice rounded nib and smooth writing action.

But in the end you have to practice lots and lots. Next time you need to send an email, stop and think - can you write a letter instead? If so, write a letter.

I to have handwriting that only can be deciphered by myself, I knew I should have been a doctor :D

If anyone asks me that they cannot read my handwriting I just reply "your not supposed to be able to read it."

I think we need a seperate thread so we can all post out own handwriting!

i.e scan in a sample, photograph it or whatever. Could be interesting!

Oh, BTW, my handwriting varies from incredibly neat to totally illegible. I mostly write in block capitals at work so people can understand it!

Thanks for the replies. My main problem is that every letter turns out a different size. It just looks so child like. Only some of my letters get joined up. The main problem is that i've just started uni and i'm taking a lot of notes which really can't be done slowly. I'll see if I can scan a page of my handwriting in.

I found university lectures ruined my nice handwriting to scribbles that no one but I can barely read.

Do it like how my mum trains/punishes my little brother in handwriting - copy that storybook *points to one of my Terry Pratchett's novels. He gets to "read" and practice.
