There are loads of news channels out there churning out the worst about society.
Why can't there be a Happy News channel promoting the GOOD things we can and do do around the world?

You get fed enough of this "the world has gone to the dogs" information and you start to believe it!
It makes for depressing viewing and the mindset of the viewers becomes more and more despondent about the world we live in.

No wonder no one cares about anyone else any more

Someone start up a "Good News" channel for the sake of humanity :D

The "good" and "happy" is considered by most to be mundane...normal. People expect good things to happen, or rather, expect to be happy - so when something bad happens it's all "ZOMG BAD" and when good things happen, it's just "okay, that's nice." or often no response at all.

Not only that, but seeing as "the news" is essentially corporate run businesses, they're going to go with what sells. And as "bad news" sells, they're going to keep on pushing it so that they can squeeze as much money from people as they can before the world inevitably collapses on itself.

the way the human mind works is that we focus on the negative; negative experiences stick in our mind way more than good ones. news focusing on the bad side of things will stick in our minds more, and ultimately lead us to watching more of it, thus increasing their ratings

We always want to blame someone for something, to have one over on someone else. Praise is grudging. After all, to have good news is the same as to be told that someone else has done something good, probably. That means we're less good than them. How very dare they!
Having it bad in the first place is less emotionally wrenching.
