Hard drives are bigger and cheaper.. how do people fill them legally?

Pretty sure I could fill a few drives by ripping vinyl into .wav.

A quick search reveals that a 7 minute long .wav is ~70mb?

Some people have thousands of records!

Lotta porn out there.

Lotta porn.
you know porn is not illegal right? ;)

I like the way Porn seems to be exempt from piracy talks. It seems morally fine to pirate porn amongst most people, why? Do you think all the companies etc. just make the content and host it for the good of mankind? No they charge money for it. I bet that 99% of people don't pay for porn aswell. Why are sites like Redtube etc. still alive? If there was a website streaming films and tv episodes for free (with the same exposure) I'm sure it would be taken down sharpish.

So it looks like its just accepted that the majority of people filling 1tb + are probably doing so with downloaded dvds or music.

Someone made a good point about connections. 50mb is only of use if you are hammering Usenet
did you even read the thread ?

reading the thread shows most are filling them with games , with samples , with audio recordings (perhaps made from those samples?) , with photo backups , with porn , etc

i fill mine with music ranging from free downloads (legit ones) to stuff i have made myself

anyway i think begbie has got it right in that 'most' people dont have terrabytes upon terrabytes of data. i reckon my mum and dad who use computers every day both havent gone over 60gb , same with my 2 brothers and most mates. i can only think of a few people that i know personally who will hit a TB and they probably do it with HD video or photos from their own cameras

Porn isn't illegal, but porno movies is just like a Hollywood blockbuster from a copyright point of view.

When you say "Lots and Lots of porn", that is the same as saying "lots and lots of movies."

Unless you paid for them all from the parent company sites that you download from.

Or homemade.

That was my point.

i think you should look at how much $$$ the porn industry makes and then rethink your 99 percent of people dont pay comment

isnt must the stuff on streaming sites amateur or stuff that companies put on as teasers or to advertise their sites ? im sure stuff DOES get taken down when it shouldnt be there in the exact same way that music/films do

There's a lot of advertising sold on webpages now, including pornographic ones - so irrespective of whether or not the webpage offers a "free" service, it's still paid in some way. Furthermore, if the owner of the video didn't want it all they'd get it taken down - just like videos on youtube etc... are removed when they break copyright.

It's strange that you care so much.

There's certainly lots of copyrighted porn on the steaming sites.

is there though or have companies put it there themselves so you search for more and signup ? ive seen many even link to their sites in the description

on the 'known' streaming sites it would only take one letter from the owners of it to get it took down

For me a lot of it is steam games, and software iso's, I basically downloaded the whole of my MSDNAA subscription just because it was free. I ofc do not use any of those ISOs except for OS installs and few select useful things for me. Also taking into account my VM installs.. everything adds up.

50 meg links could be good if you do a lot of remote working and/or file transfers from work? I agree though it seems a bit daft to have such big bandwidth when a webpage doesn't really load 5x faster on 50meg than it does on 10meg.
